Most powerful lesbian moms

Generally speaking, moms have a lot of power at home. Some moms, however, wield a lot of power outside the home too, and that takes a lot of effort and determination. Dana over at Mombian has compiled a list of the most powerful lesbian moms in America. These are women who are not only caring for their kids, but are also making a difference in the world.The list includes a lot of women we hear about all the time -- Melissa Etheridge, Mary Cheney, Rosie O'Donnell -- as well as some you might not have heard of at all -- Lisa Brummel (senior vice president for human resources at Microsoft), Megan Smith (vice president of new business development at Google), and Karla Drenner (Georgia State Representative).
Of course, everyone's definition of power is different, but I think we can all agree that these are women who are definitely higher up on the ladder than most. And if that weren't enough, they're also all moms -- probably the most challenging and difficult job on the planet. Cheers to all of them!

I'm guessing what Mel was getting at is the metric used to determine power. Being a celebrity, being highly paid in business? I'll bet they don't mean most often working in a soup kitchen or most likely to be visiting lonely people.
We don't know which Mum of today will be the mother of the future UN director-general, or the next Theresa of Calcutta or the kid that smiles at you when you're feeling low.
Theses Mum's are making a huge difference in the world but one that won't be seen for years to come.

My mom might not be famous, but to me, she's the most powerful lesbian mom I've ever met. After all, she's had to be mother to me!
I have a question, though. Yes, I know that Mombian is a website that caters to homosexual parents, but why are these women special? I mean, every mother is special, and there are mothers out there that are pretty high on the food chain. Are they only special because they are also lesbians? As far as I know, gays and lesbians want to be treated the same as those of us who are straight. So why call out these women for being powerful LESBIAN moms? They're powerful women who also happen to be mothers, and it should be left at that.

Anna, I couldn't agree with you more. Roger yaps incessantly about treating gays equally, while constantly posting divisive entries delineating one gay or another. The message is that it is ok to distinguish straights from gays when the distinction is favorable to gays.

Two new powerful lesbian moms are featured on the Discovery Health Channel... they are both pregnant w.twins; so a set of quads were born to them, but carried by two moms. I think it's awesome.

As a gay dad who would prefer to be thought of principally as dad, hopefully a good dad, and even a dad who tries to be an honest, caring person to the world in general... I think "the goddess anna" and even "Mel" are maneuvering you into a corner on this one. However, Mel, while a personal bias is to be expected, your reaction points to a limited effort to look at all aspects of an issue. I believe there is still room to identify and highlight examples of what the general public would consider as positive role models within the homosexual community.
