Boy takes off Brett Favre jersey for the first time since 2003
Categories: Teens & tweens, In the news
There are fans and then their are fans. Take David Witthoft, a Green Bay Packers fan who got a Brett Favre jersey for Christmas in 2003...and then never took it off. David wore the jersey every day until April 23rd, which was his twelfth birthday. Apparently, David was starting to feel a little self-conscious, because the jersey barely covered his belly.David's mom washed the jersey every other day and repaired it as necessary. It's not unusual for kids have a favorite piece of clothing that they request to wear again and again and again, but four plus years? That's a long time! David plans to attend the Packer's game on September 8th, when the number 4 -- Brett Favre's number -- will be retired.
Does your child have a favorite piece of clothing they never want to take off? When they finally do, here are some cute craft ideas for preserving that beloved piece of their childhood.

Wow. He wore the same shirt every day for 5 years?? That is a little extreme.
On the topic of preserving favourite clothes, my mom cut up one of my daughter's baby dresses and incorporated it into a quilt. I just love it.

Personally, I deal with a step son who is a little obsessive-compulsive like this kid....and I think to allow the kid to wear the jersey for 4 years is ridiculous on the parent's part.

This kid's a freak.

I know isn't that amazing that boy wore that shirt for 5 years I can't even imagine wearing a jersey for that many years!!!

Sounds like there's something wrong with the kid. Maybe his parents should take him to a psychiatrist. This doesn't seem normal, even for a fan.

They need to try taking the nipple out of his mouth. There's a huge problem with parents allowing kids to run the house and do what they want.

It sounds like the kid could have a problem. I'm not a psychiatrist but my wife runs a daycare and specializes in "special needs" children. I have seen some children with some serious issues. I also am a national Preventative Speaker and have spoken in depth with some children about their home life and their issues and believe it or not, kids want their parents to take an interest in them. This boy should at least be checked for O.C.D. He may be just fine, but his parents owe it to him to, at least, consider this possibility.

check out the page a little more closely he was 25 when he took it off so he was 21 when he put it on not a child...

I thought, at the beginning of this ridiculous story, that he 'NEVER" took the shirt off. Only to find that he did take it off - if his mother washed it every other day and mended it - then the statement - he "never" took it off - is incorrect.
But, now, my comment becomes and stupid as this story. That I would waste MY time commenting on something as irrevelant as this when my friend was killed this weekend in a tornado!!! What a waste of my time and yours.

Everyone has missed the point. It's not the parents, it's the kid who loves his favorite player, and wants to be like him. I would much rather have a son that wears a Bret Favre jersey, than a son that wears a Kobe Bryant top, or even worse. A son that wears a Serena Williams tennis outfit. YOU PEOPLE NEED A LIFE!!!!

What? What would be wrong if your son wore a Serena Williams' outfita? Your post is an insult to gay and lesbian children everywhere - perhaps you need to get back under your rock.

We are talking about an eight year old BOY. Not a queer, yet. But, I am sure with your guidance we can probably change that. Especially if you think that men with men, and women with women is NORMAL behavior. Get back into you closet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well then, the parents shold have gotten him another shirt!!

Think of the money his parents saved on cloth's! I can't get my kid to wear less than 2 or 3 different outfits a day! I am impressed with this boys Mom for caring enough to mend and care for the shirt because it was important to her son.

I find this story amusing because my son wears his Colts jersery every chance he gets. In fact, he launders it himself to make sure he gets to wear it more often. Like one of the other commenters pointed out, there are a lot worse things kids could do.

Perhaps his parents should give parenting a shot. If they can't bother to tell the kid to wear something else how will they react when he brings a bag of crack home?

I bet that saved a lot of money on clothes for him.....there are a lot worse things in life than wearing a jersey for all those years. Pick your battles people. This kid did not do any harm to himself or others by wearing his favorite players' jersey!!!
