Fraggle Rock is BACK! (Electric Company too!)
Categories: Kids 8-11, Fun & activities, Media, That's entertainment

Ok, come one--say it with me now: YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! Fraggle Rock is back. The Electric Company is too. And the eight to ten-year-old in me couldn't be more ecstatic. (The term I would have used as an eight-year-old would be 'spazzed' but I am now a respectable mother and adult so I'll stick with 'ecstatic.)
E News Online is reporting the return of the beloved shows to both television and the movies. Fraggle Rock will return to life as a live-action musical film. The Electric Company will be reprised on the small screen on PBS with new episodes.
You may recall current cinematic heavy-weight Morgan Freeman made his mark on The Electric Company, as did comic Rita Moreno. Fraggle Rock, which ran on HBO and was from mastermind Jim Henson.
Can't wait to see the new versions of these old favorites! Will you tune in? Maybe this time with your kids too!

That's awesome. I was a HUGE Electric Company fan. If bell-bottoms can come back every five years, then why not have an Electric Company comeback too?

I have a confession: I hated Fraggle Rock. With a passion!
I think I must be the only one. My husband was crazy about it, it was his favourite show. I'm almost surprised he married a Fraggle-hater like myself. ;) But at least now he'll be able to watch it with our daughter!

We got all the Electric Company dvds from Netflix over the past year, and our daughter (4 at the time) loved them. They're definitely dated, but they have a lot of value educationally - she'd been reading for about a year, but the shows really helped enforce phonics rules and other reading tools. If they can update the show and still keep the great educational aspects, I'm totally all for it.
We had also gotten a Fraggle Rock dvd, and it sadly did not hold up for us. Our daughter didn't really like it, and neither did we.

I love Fraggle Rock, but be warned - a lot of Jim Henson property (such as the Muppets) has been bought out by Disney, and Fraggle Rock may be included in that group. I'm loathe to see what Disney does to Fraggle Rock. =\

It will never be the same as the original Electric Company. But I hope they will also have Spider-Man, Easy Reader, and of course that hero among heroes, Letter Man!
