Boy wins National Geographic Bee

Categories: Teens & tweens, In The News, Education

Not only did 11-year-old Akshay Rajagopal win first place in National Geographic's annual geography bee this year, he answered every single question correctly in the two day contest. The sixth grader walked away with a $25,000 check, saying he was "just lucky." Humble as well, apparently.

Host Alek Trebek calls the contest the "national humiliation challenge," because the kids in the event know so much more than the average U.S. citizen (which probably explains the popularity of this show.) The contest included one student from each state and territory, plus one student from a military family.

Want to find out how you would have done up against Akshay Rajagopal? Take the quiz at National Geographic's GeoBee, where they have 10 actual questions from the bee in a featured quiz each day. After taking the quiz myself (I'll keep my score to myself, thankyouverymuch), I've got to hand it to Akshay and the other kids. Some of those questions are tough!
