Couple tries to sell baby on Ebay
Categories: Playground Bureau, Weird But True
After a long and trying day with children, it's not uncommon for parents to jokingly say they are going to put their precious darlings up on Ebay. However, parents in Germany took the kidding a bit too far when they actually listed their 7 month old son for sale on the auction website.
Police were notified by people who saw the listing and the parents are being investigated for child trafficking. The mother insists it was just a joke.
Ebay pulled the listing and I'm just sorry I can't see the description of the little guy. It must have really been something because the starting price of the auction was one euro ($1.57) and for the two and a half hours the auction ran, there were no bids. (Maybe the shipping and handle fees were outrageous?)

I have many e-bay days as my son is turning 4 in a month and is not the nicest of creatures. It would be easier to handle if it were not for the 11 month old that is getting the elbow jabs and "pats" for not leaving toy x alone. I don't deal well with violence and I don't like it in my child. Let's hope the "Hands are not for hitting" book will keep my son from being listed on EBay. Based on the article accompanying this post, I do believe this was meant to be a joke. I think about doing things of this nature, but there are obvious consequences and I would not want to lose my child even for one day to the "authorities" just for a quick laugh. I hope the child is returned to the parents soon.

I agree, it was obviously a joke. The little boy needs to be given back to his parents. Young parents making a silly joke turns into a bad mistake.

Joke or not, no decent parent would ever do anything like that. I don't care if you're having a rough day with your child. That's just wrong...

I'm pretty sure it was a joke. I do think it was inappropriate and they took it too far, but I don't think they were really trying to sell their baby!
According to the police, the auction read (in part):
"Offering my nearly new baby for sale, as it has gotten too loud. It is a male baby, nearly 28 inches (70 cm) long and can be used either in a baby carrier or a stroller."
This certainly doesn't sound serious! And even if they were.....I'm pretty sure anyone who is savvy enough to post an auction on eBay would know that eBay isn't the place to try to do something like that...
