Angelina Jolie dishes about being a working mom

Categories: Bump watch, Life & style, Celeb parenting

Angelina Jolie was in Cannes last week, showing off her gigantic belly promoting two new films, Kung Fu Panda and The Changeling (in which she plays a mother whose son disappears). While she was there, she talked to the Sydney Morning Herald about her relationship with baby daddy Brad Pitt and life as a working mom.

Jolie addressed recent rumors that she and Pitt were getting married, saying that neither of them feels marriage is necessary right now. "We want to raise these children together; we're committed to them and that's the priority. It's not about some contract binding us to have to be dedicated to each other, but that we were going to start building this family and be close just because we are. So we don't need to do it but one day we will. Maybe if the kids start asking - they'll probably be the ones to make the decision."

She also talked about balancing work and parenting, pointing out that she and Pitt have an extraordinary work situation. "We take turns working so one of us is always at home and when we work we limit the hours. We don't work on weekends. We make sure both of us are at home for at least breakfast or dinner. We adjust everything around family and we're lucky that we can. I feel for mothers who give birth and have to go to work immediately. We can bring our kids to work, and we only work four months of the year." While it is tempting to snark about how easy parenting is when you're a multi-millionaire, it's nice to hear Jolie talk about the mechanics of balancing work and family.

Finally, Jolie revealed that she and Pitt have crazy parenting moments just like the rest of us: "Brad was laughing on the red carpet and people were asking if we were having a great time, but what he was laughing about was he'd just gotten peed on by our daughter." I hope that wasn't a rented tux he was wearing.

While it's hard to imagine Angelina Jolie at your suburban mom play group, it is always nice to hear her talk about her children and her her relationship; she sounds grounded and thoughtful. I don't know that I'm down with the kids deciding when mom and dad get married, but it sounds like she and Brad are putting family first and really, you have to respect that.
