Ditch those Crocs! Cute mom shoes for the park and beyond
Categories: Just For Moms, Mommy Musts
I love shoes -- I can't really explain why, but I do. I have a girlfriend who says that women love shoes because no matter how much weight we lose or gain, our shoes always fit, and I suspect that's part of it. Great shoes can completely change your look, spiffing up even the most basic Mom Uniform. But as moms, we often default to sturdy, practical shoes, without any character or sass; in other words, we spend a lot of time in running shoes, or worse, Crocs. This summer, toss those ugly shoes and put some pretty on your feet! MomLogic's Mary Alice Haney has eight cool suggestions for hott summer shoes, among them a gold ballet flat and a pair of embellished metallic sandals.
My favorite of her picks are the Cole Haan Nike Air line, which combine Cole Haan's chic styling with Nike Air technology for shoes that you will never want to take off. The animal print ballet flats pictured here go with everything from tailored trousers to casual shorts, and retail for $185.00. I know, I know, but I promise -- your feet will thank you.

You have GOT to be kidding me- $185 for one pair of shoes? This is way out of the price range for most budget-conscious moms, especially those living on one income. I bought my entire maternity wardrobe for a little under $250, and a purchase like this not only would have blown my family budget, but probably would have landed me in divorce court. Ladies- if you want stylish, comfy, and truly affordable, head over to Target or Payless!!

I love my Crocs! I wear the Capri flip-flops, and I have yet to find a more comfortable sandal. I own 3 pairs, and my 3 kids each have their own Crocs, and we maybe paid $185 for all of them.
I'm all for good product reviews, but shilling for shoes that are this expensive is a bit much.

I've heard nothing but great things about those Cole Haan/Nike shoes and I really want to get a pair of the Carma pumps.
I love love love shoes and used to get tons of the Target or Payless cute shoes only to wear them once or twice and then they fall apart or I realize they killed my feet. A few years ago I cleaned out the closet and now have 5 pairs of shoes, purchased over time - all somewhat expensive but all well made and comfortable.
It's all about cost per wear and I wear mine all the time. The latest purchase was a pair of Chaco ZX2 sandals nearly 2 years ago. They cost about $100 but I seriously wear them every day for about 5 months each year so that's about $0.66 each time I wear them. When I'd buy a $24 pair of shoes at Target and wear them twice that's $12 per wear.
While $200 shoes may seem extravagant, when it comes down to it it's all about economics.

Do you realize how many pairs of Crocs that would buy?
I love my Crocs and wish I could afford a whole rainbow of them.
Not to knock other cute shoes, but who wants to run around after a toddler in something that expensive?
You have to be careful with the cheap shoes, though (and actually, I don't include Crocs in this category - maybe the knock-offs), because they are often poorly made and will hurt your feet; no bargain there.
Enough with the Croc-bashing, huh?
At least they're not dirty sneakers...oh wait, I wear those too!
