Now that your kids are growing and you've really come to understand the physical, emotional, and financial impact of having kids, would you still have them if given the chance to do it all over again? Of course you would, but it's moot because those kinds of second chances don't happen outside of a Hollywood blockbuster. Keri McCartney came as close as anyone can to such a scenario when she gave birth to her daughter, Macie Hope, not once, but twice.Yep, that's right, Macie Hope exited her mom's womb twice, and no, this wasn't a case of a kid crawling back inside until after the next election. Doctors discovered a massive tumor growing on Macie Hope's tailbone. Although non-cancerous, the tumor could still kill the baby, since it was as big as the fetus itself and was stealing blood that the baby needed.
So last February, doctors removed Macie Hope from the womb -- just enough so that they could remove the tumor -- and then put her back inside. The pregnancy continued another ten weeks until Macie Hope was born again on May 3. Congratulations to the McCartneys and lots of good wishes to little Macie Hope!

Serena said...She didn't go into labor twice.. they basically knocked mom out, did a c-section to remove and operate on the fetus, then put it back, and sewed mom back up. Considering 10 weeks isn't enough time for the c-section to have healed enough for her to labor when it WAS time, the second time around was likely a scheduled c-section and she never felt a single contraction. An unhealed c-section incision would pose a huge risk of uterine rupture, leading to the death of mom and baby, if she were to labor at all.
