Toddler survives three story fall

Nineteen-month-old Aidan DeBeck is the latest child to beat the odds by surviving a scary fall. He fell 25 to 30 feet, the equivalent of three stories, from his playroom window and walked away with only bruises. His mom. Sara DeBeck, tells of how she left him in the third floor room to take a nap. "I put him in the playpen, which he's just started climbing out of," she said. "He wasn't really sleepy, so I gave him some books, put the gate up and turned on the monitor."
She went back downstairs to tend to her three-year-old but could hear Aidan quietly playing through the monitor. Then she heard a thump. She was confused as to the source of the sound until she noticed the playroom curtain laying on the ground outside.
She rushed out and found her son crying but seemingly unhurt. She called 911 and Aiden was transported via LifeFlight to the hospital. Aidan checked out okay and was released the next day. "In the end, he had no injuries at all," Sara DeBeck said. "It was just amazing."
She says that Aidan will no longer be allowed to be in that room alone when the window is open. That is all well and good, but I hope that isn't her entire plan for child-proofing her windows. Give a curious kid like Aidan enough time and he will be able to open that window by himself. Preventing window falls is as easy as installing window stops or guards. I hope the DeBecks do that very soon. It is a very small price to pay for peace of mind.

Is this woman actually TRYING to thin out her herd of kids, or is she really as stupid as his article paints her to be?
Regardless of the answer, her kids would likely be safer in foster care, as she obviously doesn't have the sense it takes to close a window.

that mother should be arrested for child endagerment and total neglect! How old is she? 10??? she should know as every mother knows or just by comon sense to never leave a crawling kid in a room with oen windows!! I could never live with myself after that!!

what is wrong with that mother? She should be arrested for child endagerment and neglect. Any normal person (especially a mother) would NEVER put a crawling child in a room with an open window! I really think it might have been intentional, because you just dont do things like that. I hope they investigate and have social services check her out!!

Wow!!!!!! like None of you have never made a mistake or two in rearing your children, Yeah she should have closed the window, and child proofed it, But dang people she made a mistake, and the kid is fine. No Harm no foul.

Ist it AMAZING how when one mother makes what clearly was a mistake that anybody could have made, that all of the "perfect" parents come crawling out to bash her??? I find it rather humerous!

It was an honest mistake! How many of you perfect parents have left your child in the room before and left maybe around that he could play with and he made a mess. Do we need to call CPS on you.
How many parents discipline their children? Oh no I am calling CPS on you.
Thank God that the child is fine. People (parents) are human and make mistakes, bottomline. Grow up and get a life.

There is a monumental difference between a mistake and neglect.
Even though this was clearly an accident,what this women did was careless and down right stupid. It's a miracle her child survived.
To Lana, who said "No harm, no foul"- that's disgusting. Just because the child wasn't broken to peices in the fall, doesn't make her neglectful actions excusable in any form.
No one expects us to be "perfect" mothers, but to be even considered an acceptable parent, we must at least do everything in our power to keep our children safe. This includes making sure your third story window is shut and locked whenever you leave your adventurous toddler in his playroom alone.
in conclusion, I dont think her neglect requires the CPS's involvement- but hopefully this mother has had a wake up call and this "mistake" will NEVER repeat itself
