Disney underpants cause a stir
Filed under: In The News, Playground Bureau, Weird But True
It doesn't take a lot of foresight to realize the list of acceptable words or phrases acceptable to print on little girl underpants is very short. But apparently the people involved in the production of Disney High School Musical panties either lack the skill of looking ahead or just aren't very bright when it comes to double entrendre.
A British woman bought a pack of High School Musical underpants for her seven-year-old granddaughter was appalled to find the words "Dive In" on one of pairs.
"I was extremely shocked when I saw what was on them and I don't believe Disney or anyone else is so stupid not to realize the implications of the wording they chose." said Sue Ralph who said she would never have made the purchase if the phrase had been visible through the packaging.
A Disney spokesperson: 'The knickers in question were designed using our High School Musical 2 artwork, which uses the creative theme of a swimming pool, as this is a key part of the film's storyline. Unfortunately a genuine oversight was made and the text on this product was used outside the context of the swimming pool. This product will not be part of any forthcoming collections."
While it's good to hear that the number of High School Musical fans wearing "Dive In!" panties will be limited, I still think it's a bit far-fetched that THAT many people could be that clueless. Sounds like what the Disney product development team really needs is the addition of parents with common sense to help them out.

Tony Hudson said...I can understand both sides of this, as a beliver I know that there or ADULTS that will get a tingle when seeing a little girl wearing this, and outher sexualy charged panties, what most people don't seem to realize is most pedophiles or daddys, mommies, uncles, aunts, and grandparents. This is sad but fact, sick as it may be. Also children are more awear now, both boys and girls are doing it at 9 and 10 years of age now, and talking sooner. These are the times we live in.
On the outher hand, some people make way to much out of nothing and that is in all arenas, sex, religion, race, politics.
I do wonder about Disney, it being a childs venue, take a look at Treck the thired? you know the green monster (in my day fairytales) now the hero?. Cursing, dragqueen(man in dress)where dose this come from, I do not remember a dragqueen in any fairytail that was told to me or I told any of my children. Some sick person or persons in a place of power had to come up with and allow it to to be.
That is why I thank God for those over sensitive people that cry out so we the people are awear one way or the other.

Eric said...There are certainly a LOT of naively ignorant parents without a freaking CLUE posting here and defending the Satanic DISNEY Empire.
I myself do not yet have any kids. But IF I did, I would PROHIBIT them from wearing such sexually-suggestive adult-oriented TRASH.
DISNEY, Inc. should be ashamed, as well as those "blinders-on" parents who allow this sick trash to go unchecked.
I know that it is not the "Leave It To Beaver" 1950's, anymore, but there ARE a LOT of sickos out there.
"DIVE IN" written on a pair of panties WITHOUT A REPRESENTATION of a "swimming pool"-- only pictures of flowers (plant sex-organs) -- is a message that could only be construed in ONE WAY-- whether it is worn by an adult or an innocent child.
I am always appalled when I see pre-teen and adolescent girls with tight short-shorts with a big "JUICY" plastered on the butt... No one can deny-- It is JUST PLAIN SICKENING.
I have young nieces whom I LOVE and if I found that their parents were allowing them to wear such CLEARLY sexually-suggestive attire, I would give their Mom-- my own sister-- QUITE a speech about just WHY this is NOT appropriate for little- and adolescent-girls to wear...
It is like "Molester-Bait"!!!
The music that kids these days listen to is NOT helping, either... THANKS, Akon and Li'l Kim and Ludacris and Shawna, Trina, etc...
All of you ignorant adults who do NOT recognize the VERY OBVIOUS problem here-- You ALL need to pull your naive heads OUT of your rectums and you should have your PARENT-LICENSES REVOKED!!!
Think about it you imbeciles!!!
If YOU do not, GUARANTEED that some SICKO out there WILL!!!
WORD!!!

akumj said...This is crap, what is this world coming too? That is a saying that is popular for high school musical, printed on the undies... only dirty minded people would think something more of what it really is. First of all, a 7 year old shouldn't know anything about "diving in". I would NEVER say to a partner "Dive In" so why is GRANDMA being so smutty minded. Now that she brought this to my attention, I am looking at in a distasteful way, prior to that; I wouldn't have paid it any mind. Seek help gramps!

David said...Years ago, I saw a 4th grade girl wearing a t-shirt at school, and it had open hands designs on the lower part, with fingers pointing downward. Above it, in big letters was "Can't Touch This," apparently a reference to the MC Hammer hit in the 80s, but it had an obvious sexual innuendo. It was definitely inappropriate, and hopefully the girl had to change shirts at school later that day.

BrianiMG said...Oh, honestly.
Just because you people are desperate for money if not attention doesn't mean you have to sue someone because you tried to find something innapropriate about some little kid's undies.
Oh no! Barney's a dinosaur! He wears no clothes! That's not something good for my children to learn!
Is that what's coming next? Someone making a fuss because Barney doesn't wear any clothes? *rolls eyes* A seven-year-old isn't going to make the connection, morons.
Disney's already got a bad rep because of the original Little Mermaid cover (a male private part was shown on the cover), a word written in the stars and dust in the Lion King, a topless woman in The Rescuers, Jessica Rabbit showing HER Rabbit in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?", among other things. Give 'em a break, people! Geeze.

So, is this woman looking to sue because she has a dirty mind?
I'm sure a child thought only of a swimming pool and nothing else. Besides, I don't think any adult should be reading her underwear.
I'm sure Disney didn't want that thought to come across and was only thinking in terms of a pool.

Blanche said...EXACTLY! When I see water splashing and something that says "Dive In!", I think it means water. People's minds are so twisted. Anyone that thinks it means something else is a bit warped. Why did she buy the undies for her daughter if she didn't approve of them?

Yes, I think of a pool when I read that too, however you can't ignore the fact that the very stir these knickers are causing on this site prove they should be removed from shelves. Someone in Disney design needs to be reassigned to something harmless, like the unemployment line.

Blanche said...Ok, choice number 3 probably said something like, "It doesn't matter what is written on the undies, it was geared toward the movie". That was MY choice! I don't think Disney was implying that 7 year old girls should have anybody "diving" into their undies. Desperate people who are looking to make money off of a lawsuit will always go to the extreme to find something they can sue or or make an issue of. THIS is just stupid. Although I haven't SEEN the new Disney movie, I am certain it is a phrase that is key in the movie. Some people are so narrow minded. If you are looking for some type of sexual connotation you can find one. Does it make Disney liable? NO! If you don't like your daughter wearing undies that say that, take them back to the store, get a refund, and buy her undies that say nothing at all.

mary martin said...it gets so tiresome people always think the worst of the simplest words and actions when they need to look at the bigger picture. maybe disney corp. made a mistake. get over it thank u for being diligent now try reading info before judging. that is what is wrong now. all the crap people have in their minds dont like it dont seeit , dont buy it, dont listen to it . be a cave dweller . most kids that age unless exposed to a lot of stuff dont even notice everything their clothes say just the cool colors or someone else has them . did u tell your child what u thought it meant?. bet not. cause then u might give them real info on what and why u thought it meant whatever u thought .

I mean REALLY-- does a kid that little know what it means, and REALLY is a pedophile going to go after this girl with his see through clothes detector to identify which kid to attack. I think not- and this complaint is really just as silly
