Kindergarten party raided

When the police in Auckland, New Zealand were called to shut down a loud party last Friday, they probably expected that the party-goers would be a bunch of kids. What they probably didn't expect is that the kids would all be about five years old. But that is exactly what they found when they responded to a complaint made by what can only be described as a cranky neighbor.
The One Tree Hill Kindergarten was in the midst of their annual disco party, rocking out to Bob the Builder and the Chicken Dance when noise control officials arrived on the scene around 6:30 pm. Teacher Jenny Skerritt said the officials seemed a bit "red faced" as they ordered them to turn it down or shut it down. "I don't think it was that ragey, but it's all a matter of perspective I guess," she said.
Perspective, indeed. The babies sleeping in the very next room obviously didn't think it was too loud. Nevertheless, they turned the music down and continued with their party. And just for kicks, they plan to frame that noise abatement notice for all to see.

>>> "Perspective, indeed. The babies sleeping in the very next room obviously didn't think it was too loud."
What an idiotic comment. Babies can sleep under very loud noise levels - through fireworks, at concerts, at a wedding dance.
This is a residential district and the kids were "blasting out bob the builder". You'd think the nursery could teach some respect rather than lording the fact they got served a noise abatement order.

Guess you are one of the Cranky Neighbors!!

Good points! I've got kids of my own, but just because I think their noise is cute doesn't mean everyone else does. You shouldn't have to move to enjoy a bit of peace and quiet in your own home.

Can we all assume that you are the angry neighbor in question?

Get a life Lady!! It was 6:30 in the evening...guess you ARE the miserable neighbor.

Ahh, so you're the cranky neighbor who called the cops. What's the matter, your mommy never allowed you to have a birthay celebration, so now you're mad at the world?

wow....must be the cranky neighbor for sure...and besides that, it was 6:30 pm...not exactly "quiet time" in most areas. And how long will a party for 5 yrs olds go on? lol

you are probably the neighbor who called. They were little kids having fun! What is better for them to NOT have a birthday party. WE HAVE WARS GOING ON AND YOU ARE SOOOOOO F ING WORRIED ABOUT CHILDREN AT PLAY. GET REAL AND BE NICE OR YOU WILL DIE ALONE. There are too many other things that you could be complaining about and/or doing something about instead of doing what you did as a kid and being a BULLY!

they didn't say they were blasting out Bob the Builder. It said they were rocking out to it. Even if the music wasn't that loud kids playing around can get quite loud. My parents live right next to a grade school and we can hear the kids all the time. Thats part of living next to a school. It would be no different if you were living next to a high school during a football game. GET OVER IT! Your like those people that buy a house next to the airport than complain that the jets make too much noise.

You must have made the phone call. I bet you keep rubber balls that roll into your yard too!

I have a neighbour below me that complains to the condo board every time I or my kids make ANY noise. Some people are just cranky. Plus the fact that it was 6:30PM, not 2AM, should make a difference as well.
That said, I wasn't there to hear how loud the music actually was.

Didn't the neighbor know there was a school next door when they moved into their house? I am so tired of neighbors complaining about noise, traffic and where teachers park! Maybe they need to move to the country where there is less noise and the only neighbor is a mile away!

One problem with them moving into the country...then they complain about the elk, deer, bears, mountain lions, etc...then they whine because they don't have cell phone coverage, and it's too far to the store. How do I know? Because I live WAY out in the country and when city folk move out here these are the complaints. So, I think these people are gonna complain no matter WHERE they live!

How do you know who was there first? Maybe the daycare built their place long after the neighbor was there. Unless you know that, don't tell people that they should have known not to move there. I now have a vacant lot across the street from me that could be used to build a day care. Should I have known 10 years ago that the neighbor's house would burn down to create an empty lot that could be used like that when I bought my house? Not that I would call in a preschool for noise anyway, just that my point is don't be telling people what they should not have done without knowing the facts.

Wow---cranky people should live in adult living areas---when you live in a neighborhood with kids you have to expect noise-that is what kids do for petes sake-quit being a grouch and go join the fun----cranky people suck!!!!

Thats classic. It'd be even funnier if thats how they actually showed up at the party...LOL!
Kevin 8-21-2008 @ 2:57PM
pbhj; you are obviously the cranky neighbor.
Here's a suggestion - get over it.
How miserable do you have to be to call the police on 5 year olds at 6:30 in the afternoon? If you lived next to a nursing home would you call the police and complain about the noise of the hissing oxygen tanks?
