Breastmilk key ingredient at Swiss restaurant
Categories: Eating & Nutrition, Mealtime
We all know that "breast is best" when it comes to a baby's first food, but what about after that? Some mothers breastfeed their children for several years. Okay, so that's great if you can do it, but what about adults? Why should grown-ups be denied the health benefits of mother's milk? Well, a restaurant owner in Switzerland doesn't think his customers should be given the cold shoulder when it comes to breastmilk.
Hans Locher plans to offer soups, stews, and sauces containing at least seventy-five percent breastmilk on his menu. "We have all been raised on it," he says. "Why should we not include it into our diet?" He has taken out ads looking for donors and plans to pay more than five dollars a pint. "I first experimented with breast milk when my daughter was born," Locher explains. "One can cook really delicious things with it."
If you're considering adding some to your diet, I'm sure Locher would be completely supportive. "However," he warns, "it always needs to be mixed with a bit of whipped cream, in order to keep the consistency." So there you go.

It's not really any more disgusting than drinking cow or other animal milk. Whatever floats your boat.

Who donates? Or how much is a quart of mother's milk selling for these days? I believe that this smacks (get it? lip smacking good?) of a gimmick.

Wow, I couldn't imagine! I'm a breastfeeding mom and I just prefer to feed my baby, that's it. Guess each to his own, but really....feeding people breastmilk at a restaurant? Humm...guess I'll have to feed on that thought for a while :)

What about quality control? There are a lot of medications/drugs, over-the counter, prescribed and illegal street drugs, that pass through to breastmilk.

You are right there! i am a RN who worked in labor and delivery, what some people don't know is that HIV is secreted in breast milk,it is after all a bodily fluid,so if someone is going to use breast milk in a resteraunt he better screen it,or he might have big time lawsuits if he gets HIV infected milk ans serves it in his resteraunt and exposes people to it.I wonder if he even thought about that?

I agree execpt that there are huge quality control issues with cow's milk as well, and they use plenty of drugs in mainstream bovine milk production, not to mention the cruelty of it and the poor conditions the cows live in. I'd be willing to give this a try. Would like to know about the quality control though. So interesting.

I was also worried about the HIV connection. Many people do not know that HIV can be transmitted through Breast Milk. Although it was a good thought as far a nutrition goes, there is a lot more involved than he might realize

Those are all reasons that I have to believe that the announcement breastmilk is on the menu or used in the creation of signature recipes or what have you may be nothing but a gimmick; a ruse to pull in curious customers. Desperate times call for desparate measures and we may see many more weird promotions before the business cycle levels.

I'll keep that in mind the next time I'm lactating. Wow, if I didn't feel like a cow before this article, I sure do now.
