"Accidental incest" possible after one man impregnates 30 women
Filed under: Babies, In The News, Weird But True, Sex
Boy meets girl. Boy and girl fall in love. Boy and girl find out they are related.Lifetime Movie Network or just your average Australian romance?
Australian laws are forcing gays and lesbians to seek "unregulated" sperm donors in order to have children, worrying state officials who say a generation of half-siblings could commit "accident incest" if the trend continues.
One man is thought to have impregnated at least 30 lesbians, while another man's sperm may have been used to father 29 babies.
According to FOXNews, sperm donation in South Australia is limited to heterosexual couples experiencing infertility and other reproductive hurdles, forcing same-sex couples to seek "donations" from willing parties online, or from casual sex. The same laws also require sperm donors to reveal their identities, putting off many men from donating at legitimate clinics.
Authorities fear that the children could grow up, meet and form sexual relationships with one another -- they are particularly worried because 29 half-siblings may all reside in Adelaide, one "big county town." Doctors fault the laws, which they say push gays and lesbians outside the system to have children of their own, and called for the South Australian laws to be repealed.
Ambitious entrepreneurs take note -- the DNA analysis business is going to be HUGE down under.

I'd say the worst problem was created by the government regulation prohibiting lesbians from getting sperm donations.
I'd say this is just the government trying to get control of people's private behavior.
It is another example of the government causing the problem, and then using fear to try to get more power, all while doing nothing effective to solve anything.
We need less government, the whole world over!

LT said...Sam,
So are you saying that even heterosexual couples shouldn't be able to use surrogates/donors? I know of many Christians that have used modern medicine to become parents. Just because a couple that is not hetero uses the same method, it's wrong? Where do you draw the line with medical progress? Is it "wrong" to let diabetics inject themselves with insulin? Their bodies aren't producing it themselves but I imagine you would have no problem with them "screw[ing] with mother nature" in that scenario. So, you say this is different. Why? Who made you the boss of what is medically ethical or appropriate? The history of medicine relies on what does not happen to your body naturally. Who draws the line? You? God? Do you have His/Her email acct and get to hear His/Her viewpoints on these matters?
Judge not lest ye be judged! The one part of the bible so-o-o-o many "Christians" forget!

Then the seduction ( usually erotic masseuse stops) and child support starts. Beware, once you sign that birth record in the hospital, you cannot deny paternity, you need to go to court and it is not cheap.

Dily said...I think that gay couples who want babies, should just adopt. They shouldnt be allowed to use a sperm bank, not knowing how the real parent is, just makes things worst. There are way too many kids in need of a family, why create more babies?!?!?! Adoption is the option for these couples.

Drug dealer (male) willing to oblige, for a time, fathers children - often time MANY - and kids grow up in same neighborhood. Sometimes, but not often, knowing their common parent. Since most times dealers and clients don't know each other by full name, and both are often promiscuous, birth certificates seldom indicate fathers' identities. Have worked within child welfare system for years and have direct knowledge of these facts. Which situation is 'worse'??

uNeverKno said...wow... i am a Christian, a real one. I don't belive in homosexuality, not only because of my faith but personally as well. If someone chooses to lead that lifestyle though, then i do agree with Dily- there are many children out there who need homes and if a couple wants a kid, that's not fully theirs anyway, then adoption is definitly the absolute best way to go. IF they really feel the need to get a donor, then at least make it official at least for the sake of the child please.
