Billy Ray Cyrus lets Miley's boyfriend move in
Categories: Teens & tweens, Celeb Kids, Celeb Parenting
Your 15-year-old daughter falls for 20-year-old underwear model. Do you:a) Lose sleep at night.
b) Hope that you've raised her well, but keep a close eye on their activities.
c) Wonder why in the world the chastity belt went out of style.
d) Invite the young man to live with you.
If you were Billy Ray Cyrus, you'd choose D, or maybe even all of the above. A source alleges that daughter Miley Cyrus's new beau, Justin Gaston, is living with the family in their California home. "Billy wasn't born yesterday," says the source, "He figures the safest path to take is to keep Miley and Justin on a short leash -- and under the same roof."
Sigh. Sometimes, it amazes me how much I've changes since becoming a parent. Not that long ago, I would have said, "Sure. Whatever." But now all I can think is that if Billy Ray thinks this is the safest route, he doesn't remember being a teen.
But who knows, maybe the kid fell on hard times and needed a place to stay, which would make opening their guest room up to him temporarily perfectly appropriate. We're hardly getting the whole story, here. But if this move was simply "to keep an eye on them," I think Billy Ray needs to reconsider the message he's sending.
What do you think?

I wouldn't let my 15 year old date, so I guess it's a moot point.

Whether it's the Cyrus family of Hollywood, or the Smith family of Anytown, a 15-year-old and a 20-year-old dating is a world of trouble. A five-year age difference is fine for adults, although there can still be problems in the early 20's, but this age difference is just too much.
1. Statutory rape. Enough said.
2. 15 = high school. 20 = college. HUGE difference in life experience.
If they're really in love, then love will wait. And if they're in "luuuurrrve", then they shouldn't have 24-hour access to one another.
Aside from the aforementioned possibility of "family problems", there's no WAY I would allow my son's girlfriend to live with us, unless they were both adults, and both paying rent.

I can't say I'm surprised, I saw the following article the other day and figured she would be on her down turn soon.

Her dad can't pass her off as a wholesome little girl for much longer, I think eventually she will become more and more rebellious.

How in the world.....?Why?....Oh for goodness sake, when are parents going to sit up and JUST SAY NOOOOOO?!? NO you may not date at this age?NO you may not date a guy that much older than you at this point in your life?NO!NO!NO!
Yes, teenagers are naturally rebellious but that doesnt give the parent room to steer them towards making foolish mistakes.People, we are not here to be our kid's friends, we are here to guide them and protect them. If they make their own bad choices let it not be becuase we gave them room to do so. If indeed this story is true then I say Shame on you, Billy Ray Cyrus!!!

Helena- I definitely stand by you. That is terrible, if this is true.I quess some parents don't realize that we are not here to be our kids friend but to be parents and to protect them.

She's hit stardom and romance too fast for her age. This could just lead to many boyfriends eventually living in the Cyrus home. Not too smart there, Billy Ray!

Just to let you know...
If a California prosecutor wanted to, he could charge, AND convict, Mr. Underwear Model with or without Cyrus' or Cyrus' daughter's consent. If convicted, Mr. Underwear Model would MOST DEFINITELY be put on the Sex Offender Registry for LIFE. Yes, for LIFE.
IN ADDITION:
Billy Ray Cyrus HIMSELF could be put on a registry for allowing his daughter to live in a criminal (statutory) relationship! For life as well, based on his enabling charge!
For your information, the registry is FAR WORSE than regular, run of the mill probation, because the Registered Sex Offender would have to put up with a lot of things, such as:
Registration as Sex Offender
Jail/ Prison Sentence
Felony Sex Offender
Probation/ Parole
No contact with children under 18
Removed from High School due to your status
No Employment Opportunities
Sex Offender Treatment
Comply to State Residency Laws ( Parks, Daycares, Schools)
Sexual Behavior Polygraph
Biannual Polygraphs
No Dating Anyone With Children
Drivers License Which Reads "Sex Offender"
No Internet Usage
Colored License Plates For Vehicle
Can’t Stay Overnight With Friends
Harassment
Give All Of Your Family Members Names When Registering.
Monthly Home Checks
No Drinking Alcoholic Beverages
Cyrus, GET EDUCATED....FAST!!!
