Bruce Springsteen cancels Halloween display
Categories: Life & Style
Okay, now I am officially bummed. When we first moved to this area of New Jersey earlier this year, one of the selling points I kept hearing from everyone was "Hey! Bruce Springsteen lives near there! Maybe you will get to meet him some day!" I didn't really expect to bump into The Boss at the grocery store, but I am a fan and had hoped there would be some benefit to having him as a neighbor. Like being able to take the kid by his house to witness his legendary Halloween display. It appears we got here about a year too late.Bruce and his wife Patti Scialfa have canceled their annual Halloween display because too many people like myself actually wanted to drive by and check it out. One his Website, he cites the "catastrophic success" of their previous displays and concerns for the safety of kids and parents as the reason for the cancellation.
Speaking of enormous Halloween displays -- do you do that? Is your yard full of gravestones and spiderwebs? How about a giant inflatable jack-o-lantern or ghosts hanging from your trees? Or, like me, do you just depend on your neighbors to provide the spooky Halloween atmosphere?

That's sad that they had to pull the plug because too many people enjoyed it. They obviously enjoyed doing it for the kids to enjoy. It would be nice if they could admit so many per night or something similar.
I love decorating for Halloween, too! But it just depends on what's going on in our world during the first week of October whether I have time to go rummaging through the boxes to unpack the stuff and put it up. For some reason my girls tend to have runny noses and to be cranky during that time frame. That is usually the time when we usually have our first cold snaps that bring sore throats my way.
But we are enjoying the neighbor's efforts and I must say that they outdid themselves. One lady did a "Rose Red" thing complete with huge concrete fountain that she aged and decorated with a huge spider and spiderwebs and weeds. She also added some extras like a spooky cemetery and an iron fence like you see around graveyards in the old horror movies.
My girls make me stop the car so they can look everytime we go down the street. I know to add at least ten minutes to our travel time so that we can look to see if there's anything we missed the last time.

I love to decorate as well. My only limitation is money. If I had the bosses' money, my halloween display would probably be out of control.
The most noticed decoration at my house appears to be the giant spider on my garage door.

A few years ago in the town I grew up in, the Funeral Home director put out haystacks and pumpkins and a few spider webs...it was when he added the ghosts, that the town had him remove his decorations b/c they thought it was tacky......He was the uncle of my brother's best friend and he was had a sense of humor.....personally, i know it was "bad" taste, but it was funny....
