Best and worst gifts?
What's the best gift your kids have ever gotten? What's the worst? There have been quite a few gifts, over the years, that our children have received that they absolutely hated -- or that we, as parents, hated. Some were contrary to our values, some were inappropriate for the age of our kids, and still others were loved by the kids and hated by the parents.Meanwhile, there are a few that we and the kids have loved getting and some we love to give. What are your favorites? Have any gift-giving or gift-getting horror stories? With the holidays approaching fast (or already here in some cases), this is information we all need to have. My then 2 year old's reaction: "That's the ugweeist thing I evah seen! I gonna tow huh in the gahbage!" We didn't throw them in the garbage, but donated them to a toy drive the next year.
I think their favorite gifts so far have been their Nintendo DS games. They liked the Playstation 2 for awhile, but don't play it much now. The still play with the DS's, though. They have been wanting a Wii since they came out and will be getting one this year. That Wii is the only thing I've bought so far this year. I'm sure it will be more loved than the new pajamas.

The best gift was for my almost 3 y/o. He got a set of Magna-Tiles. We love those! He will sit for long periods of time building and creating. You can even find Mommy and Daddy still playing with those once he's in bed!

The worst gift I've given was a hat and glove set to a four year old. She started crying hysterically and asking why did I have to give her cwoze over and over. She threw them to her pet dog, Frido (now deceased) and he chewed the fingers off the finger. Ugh! That was a terrible day.

At the time it was out of our budget so my mom offered to buy it. We did Christmas at mom's after the 25th so on the 25th my daughter was sooooooo sad, mommy and daddy didn't get it and Santa didn't care either. When she opened it at mom's 2 days later, she actually cried she was so happy.
Worst gift. Something that makes noise with no off switch and you need a screwdriver to remove the batteries. We got some sort of game that quacked at mom's, put it in the trunk and headed home. Yes, quack quack quack quack quack quack. After about 4 hours my husband pulled the car over, opened the trunk and pitched the quacking menace as far as it would go. Don't get me wrong - I am very opposed to littering, I would love to have given the toy to a needy family. But at that moment in time there is no way I could or would have stopped my VERY aggravated husband.

Robin said...The worst gift my daughter has ever received was a Bratz doll last Christmas, at age 2. I feel like their look is VERY inappropriate for young girls. They look like streetwalkers.....not the image I want my daughter to imagine for herself when she's a "big girl".
My children's favorite gifts are always costumes.
