El Paso dance team spikes rival's brownies
Filed under: In The News, Weird But True
We have all heard of kids lacing foodstuffs with laxatives as a prank. It's not cool, but at least it won't cause anyone any permanent damage. But some girls on an El Paso high school dance team may have taken that idea and run just a little too far with it. Reportedly, they spiked some baked goods with something quite a bit stronger and gave them to their dance rivals at Andress High School. At this point, all the dancers have fessed up to is adding a bit of laxative to the brownie batter. But rumors are swirling that there may have been rat poison and bleach in the sweets! It doesn't sound like anyone actually ate any of the tainted brownies, but at least one parent of an intended victim is calling for criminal charges. "We felt like they weren't out just to play a prank," said Bea Saenz. "With all the stuff they put in there, it is like they were trying to kill them."
District officials are having the brownies tested but the results won't be available for weeks. In the meantime, the brownie-spiking girls have been kicked off the dance team and suspended for three days. I suppose that punishment suffices if it turns out to have been just laxatives in the brownies. But what if there was something else in there? What do you think should happen to these girls?

Nowadays, people are allergic to everything so ons of those girls could have become seriously ill or killed as a result of the othter girls "joke." A slap on the wrist is not enough when someone's life is put in jeopardy. If an adult can't poison someone than neither can they.

Thats where the poll came from and yes they should be punished if there was some serious poison in there!!!!

These girls should minimally be kicked off the team and submit a detailed report of the dangers of "spiking" someone's food (this may help to inform their ignorance). If the results indicate poison was added, criminal charges need to be filed.

They had an agenda that would turn out to be very dangerous to their rivals. They have to learn the consequences of their actions NOW, or this type of behavior will just progress as they get older.

I have been a cheerleading coach for 12 years and have never had a team that would be capable of something like this. My girls are taught to win or lose with grace and sportsmanship.

Would you be in the bathroom or worse case, the ER with your child, saying to them, "oh, it's no big deal honey, it was harmless!"? So would it be ok for your waitress to "add" something to your food, or would you find that criminal? It's one thing to actually play a real prank, ya know rig something to fail, replace banners, kidnap mascots....whatever but when you tamper with ones health & well being.....that's way too far! I would love to see all the supporters of this type of prank be on the recieving end of it & see if you still think it's harmless! I am a paramedic & have responded to a teacher that had laxative added to her b-day cake!...not only did she require several days in the hospital, she had to receive blood from all the rectal bleeding that occured from this "harmless" prank, this teacher never returned to her job & she has to live with the fact her students that she cared about enough to show up each day to share her knowledge with would do something like that as a thank you for all her efforts! I would be so ashamed of my child for doing something like this, I don't think I would ever look at him the same, you just don't treat other humans this way!

This way they learn their lesson and they arent escalating to worse revenge tactics down the road. sick peeple they are to do this.

Do you all remember the Texas cheerleader who was slain, and another who was almost killed by a rival cheerleader's mother?
Good lord! What is going on in Texas, and what's going on in the minds of these kids? Is dancing or cheerleading that important?
Talk about twisted values.
I say again, if anything else is found in the brownies, those girls should do time for attempted murder. How would any of you feel if your daughter was the recipient of these brownies and was poisoned?

Joy said...monet8286 - So it would have been ok if it had been YOUR daughter that this happened to? Oh hell, no.... Put the little princesses/ignorant little jerks in jail for a month and see how they like THAT. If they're really lucky, maybe someone will spike THEIR food... hmmm.... Do unto others, that's what I say.

Tex said...If it was laxative then that is one thing, but rat poison or bleach is totally different. If they used rat poison or bleach the punishment used should be harsh or with intent to commit bodily harm or even a worse sentence.

Kay said...I live in El Paso. My understanding is the girls have adamantly denied anything other than laxatives. If they put in more than laxatives, they should definitely be punished by far more than suspension. Let's not forget the students who found out about this and did the responsible thing by notifying officials who could intervene before the brownies were actually given to Andress students.

Pranks are pranks and if it's JUST laxatives in the brownies, then the punishments they've received should suffice BUT IF the brownies had anything like bleach or rat poison, then these girls truly should be in Juvenile Hall. IF there's something lethal in the brownies and these girls get nothing more than a slap on the hand, then that's saying it's OK to try and kill someone, just as long as you don't get caught....that's THE WRONG MESSAGE! YOU are beyond ridiculous if you think it's ok to TRY to poison/kill someone as long as nobody actually GOT KILLED.

Patty said...Monet, even though your comments are totally asinine, you don't sound like a kid to me. I can't imagine that anyone, no less, an adult would think this is just okay. To shake it off as no big deal is what makes people like you the problem in our world. What right does anyone have to play a prank like that? It's okay to make someone sick, and humiliate them??!! Go crawl back under your rock, lady. My guess is you were a CHEERLEADER yearning for attention yourself in your younger yours...poor thing

Alexandra said...A "prank" is normally something funny, but I fail to see anything humorous in what these bonehead dancers did !! Whether it was the laxatives, or possibly the rat poison/bleach, all I can say is "what were they thinking". They definitely deserve the suspension for the laxative possibility, and if it is true that they used rat poison/bleach, these girls deserve CRIMINAL CHARGES to be filed against them !!
