Obama Baby Boom?
Categories: Just for moms, Just for dads, Love & sex, Pregnancy & birth
Diaper changes may not have been exactly what the Obama For Change campaign was about, but there are those who predict that is exactly what many Obama supporters will be doing in about nine months.Did euphoric couples around the country celebrate Obama's win on November 4th with a little unprotected celebration sex? Dr. Manny Alvarez, chief of reproductive science at Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey suspects they did. "The mood of the country and the optimism about leadership is always somewhat related to birth rates," he says. "I'm gearing up for a healthy increase."
University of Washington sociologist Pepper Schwartz says that hope and euphoria can work as aphrodisiacs. Add to that the fact that the majority of voters under 30 supported Obama and you have a lot of extremely happy couples of child-bearing age looking for a way to commemorate the big night. Makes sense to me.
If the idea of a post-election baby-boom sounds far-fetched, consider Barack Obama's own birth date. He was born on August 4, 1961. That was almost nine months to the day that John F. Kennedy was elected to the White House. Coincidence?

I do not feel inclined to discourage people from having children, although in this day and age, one should realized that each new human being, no matter how "green" will be contributing to global warming.
I do feel angry however that people today now expect that they can have as many children as they want, and have the taxpayer pay for all their expenses until they are adults. Why does this make sense? I can see the government supporting perhaps two children, but once again, why is it the taxpayers responsibility to pay for six, seven or even more children. Indeed it is frequently the people who cannot afford children, that are having the most. Of course why not, when each new kid brings in more governement money, and benefits.

Tim. Give us your Bio. Because you sound very uninformed. You should pay a visit to the Employment Office. There you will see those who you say are riding the system, begging for any kind of job. They will tell you that being on ADC sucks.

Oh, no!!! All those people who were so happy about his election and are now going to be "punished with a baby".

Of course your name ends with the word ONE huh? I hope you were trying to make a joke about people who supported Obama, because to hear someone say kids are a punishment , well those people are very sad individuals... You either cannot have children, or are so full of hate, it is a good thing you do not want children...
Too bad, Children are a gift and so precious....I have 5 and one grandchild on the way... They were born into a loving household... It seems as though maybe you were not....
I hope one day you see the error of your thoughts and words...

Interesting! I've been thinking that as Barack gets in office and we get going with an influx of new jobs in clean energy, the creative spark will overflow into the family and lots of young people will have children. So I was thinking that the real boom will start in another year or two. By 2010, we should start seeing lots of newborns with all those new jobs in bringing a better world of clean energy.

I was going to say, how surprised and disgusted I am over the racist and ignorant posts on this blog. But my experience from other blogs, racism is still alive, most unfortunate. It seems history made comes with a measure of ugliness. People's racism has surfaced more and more since Obama has been elected. Just when I thought our country was more evolved.

The Catholic Church has going totally raving mad on Abortion. Obama supports a "Woman's Right To Choose" rather she wants an Abortion or not. They, the CC, are being the GREAT DICTATOR on this matter. They are Dictating what a Catholic woman BETTER do. Obama says, "Let THE woman choose". It's not a matter of rather YOU are for or against abortion, you are NOT the one that's Pregnant, so what give you the right to have rule over her body?

You're missing the point. It's not the woman's body. It is another individual's body that is living inside of the woman's body. When someone kills another individual, we call it murder. Unless it's an unborn individual or a black skinned individual. Fortunately, we fixed that second exception with the 13th Amendment. Someday, the unborn will be recognized as humans and people will wonder how we could have ever condoned such a thing and called it 'choice'.
We have a black skinned individual as president. Someday, we'll have a former fetus as president. (yes, I get it...)

Oh yes, and if they change their mind at the last minute, it will still be okay to terminate their lives after they are born! How convenient! Thanks Obama!

Oh JE, don't you know? Retroactive abortion is still illegal in these United States... despite mother's threats of "I brought you into this world, I can take you out." LOL

I have made a conscious choice to only partake in positive, kind, helpful, forward-looking thinking and actions! The world and our nation has a long history of anger, hostility, revenge, war, and hate. My philosophy of life is you get what you energize! Therefore, part of the challenge is that historically we always respond to war, hate, negative actions with more of the same! I don't know about you all, but I believe our history, including the recent times, proves that responding in kind only gets us more of the same! We have been our own worst enemies! I often wonder what would happen if, for example, we surrounded the Middle East with millions of people praying and meditating for peace! It's certainly worth a good old American effort based on the opposite approach's years and years of failed results! This philosophy should be applied to our new Administration and all the great challenges we face! As Barack often says, "For change to occur, we must first believe!" C'mon, my fellow Americans, let's koin together and work together in a new spirit of peace and harmony! A little kindmess goes a long way and changes the dynamics and resukts of all encounters! Yes, there will be many naysayers, but I choose not to take on their negativity! If I could feel bad enough to heal the world's or one person's problems, I would take it on in a heartbeat, but I canot! Therefore, I choose to be the peace in all my efforts and actions that we need. We are the leaders we seek (Hopi Nation) ... Let's get on board the peace train!!!!

I agree to be positive , but when a cracked out thug pokes his penis in you and shoves a gun in your ribs, what do you do then? Stay a cheery pacifist? Only an ignorant fool would ignore the evil in society, rather an immoral coward would ignore the evil, because to not be vehemently against evil and fight it, you become an enabler. Standing on the sidelines and not joining in the fight for good and against evil is ... well.. just plain irresponsible.

I appreciate your concern for our country. The Middle Easterner is the most praying people on planet Earth. They Pray SEVEN times a day like clock work. In our Country, we have separation of Church and State because of our CONSTITUTION. In the Middle East, the KORAN (our Old Testament) IS their Constitution. The WORD OF GOD (ALLAH) is their Constitution. Think about that. We can't even pray in our schools, but the Koran is one of their text books. We Westerners better wake up.
