Jaylynn may not have known how to keep himself warm, but he had a couple of buddies with him with some pretty good instincts. Two puppies who wandered away with Jaylynn slept up against the boy all night while searchers were looking. "Momma, I got cold," Jaylynn told his grandmother. "I slept in the woods last night. The puppies kept me warm."
The families say that even after Jaylynn was found and safe, the puppies continued to keep a close eye on him. I'm betting that from now on, his family and caregivers keep a pretty close eye on him too.

Bonnie said......and as far as I am concerned, those puppies should get the best steak (or whatever it is that puppies love most) dinner that there is!
So much for 2-legged animals being so much more 'intelligent' than our 4-legged friends.......

Any time I was resting, he would not allow anyone to touch me. Nor would he allow a stranger near my car or property. I think my little Yorkie, (Bruno) would protect me with his life if he had to.

Greg said...... & groups like PETA & HSUS want to take away our rights to breed & own dogs! People, we need to fight them locally & nationally. They are so well funded that lawmakers listen to their drivel. The poll results here show 90+% of people trust their dogs to look after their kids. & thats just one good thing about pets- add Search & Rescue (& other Working Dogs = Herding, etc), Handicap Assistant Dogs, Therapy Dogs & just plain Companion Dogs. I for one will fight for my right to own & LOVE my dogs!! Greg.

Aimee said...There's no shortage of dogs, cats or any domesticated breed. Breeders ESPECIALLY MILLERS are the reason there are so many unwanted animals. Cesar won't be out of a job because he can rehabilitate the animals that have been abused. Peta's just making people aware that buying animals from pet stores and breeders contributes to the over population problem. Animals are sentient and need to have rights people have abused animals from the beginning of time and the animals finally need a voice.

ladyg21 said...Where did Greg get the idea that HSUS and PETA want to take away their right to breed and own dogs. As far as I know, they want to do away with cruel puppy mills and abusive owners. There are no stronger organizations for the care of animals than those two. Your local SPCA's, rescue groups and other animal lovers groups are working under almost impossible conditions sometimes to save and care for our four legged friends. I would suggest that instead of mis caracterizing the above organizations he join one and see how treated and mistreated animals are. With love and the pets respond, and cruelty, then the community responds.

BUTCH said...I agree. These two groups have a screw loose. PETA has the WORST record of any group as far as the number of animals they adopt out and the number they kill. I would not believe a word either of these organizations have to say. HSUS is the most anti-human organization in the world. Do a web search and see.

Don said...Greg must own a puppy mill and get rich off breeding dogs!! If you want to see what people who are "free" to breed their dogs looks like go to you local shealter and look into the eyes of those caged there. There are too many homeless pets in this country. I am all for limiting your freedoms in that area!

Lynda Beam said...Unfortunately Greg is absolutely right. I used to be a member of both organizations until I saw the light. Unfortunately they appeal to animal lovers for their money, but look at their annual reports, read what their leaders say. Very little money actually finds it way down to any animals, it's mostly fundraising and lobbying and salaries.
If you want to save animals, donate money and your time to your local animal shelter and rescue. PETA especially just wants no animals at all and most animals that end up at PETA are euthanized. Go look up the court case where PETA was on trial for putting to sleep animals in the back of a van and then dumping them in the nearest dumpster. The animal hospitals etc. that were providing those animals were shocked to learn that baby kittens that they would have tried to place themselves never made it alive out of the parking lot. It's public record.

cation said...You are so wrong ladyg21 about PETA. They have made no secret about how they want to abolish ALL pet ownership. Their shelters also have the highest kill rate of any shelter. Some of them went to jail last year because they used fraudulent means to get animals that people were giving away. They then killed them in the back of the van they were using and dumped them in the trash. PETA is well funded because misguided people think they are an animal welfare organization. Visit petakillsanimals.com and get educated so we can stop them.

grnirox said...Groups like PETA and HSUS are not against breeding animals, they are against Puppy Mills etc that abuse animals. When you make such a blantant statement, make sure your facts are straight. I am an advocate for Animals Rights and against cruelty thereof, however, Puppy Mills are abusivie, inhumane facilites that only care about profits and not the animals themselves. Educate yourself.

michele said...My dogis over protective of my 6 month old daughter but no animal should EVER look after a kid. This case with the little boy is unique and obviously they considered the boy part of their pack. Dogs are animals and they live under dominance type behavior and not human. It's not cool to make it sound like a dog can be a caregiver it allows the less informed people out there who own untrained dogs believe the wrong things.
Where did all the PETA talk come from?? I love animals and am against animal cruelty but I'm grateful that medication that saves human life is tested on animals. PETA is not. They rather we test on humans...that in my book is CRAZY!!

hardtoimagine said...Greg I respect your passion but breeding is largely unecessary. There are great dogs killed everyday because people need purebreads. If you love dogs you should adopt, not purchase.

missjanenc said...You dumbass, if you want to get a dog, adopt one frome the pound. The reason the HSUS and others want people to spay and neuter is that FIVE MILLION pets are nuked each year because of idiots like you.
All my pets are throwaways I have picked up off the street and I couldn't have picked better if given the choice.

caroline said...For those that do not know that PETA is for the abolishment of ALL animal "ownership" in this country, please do a little research. PETA KILLS! dogs and cats that are in their facilities for research. PETA KILLS! dogs that are at dog shows.. PETA doesn't want you to eat any more meat (everybody ready to be veggies???) and doesn't want you to have any products made from animals (leather, cosmetics, food!)
Don't be fooled by their polished surface... they are the wolf in sheeps clothing and are well on their way to starting no captive animals with local anti breeding and anti dog owning laws.

Monika said...Why don't you invest your energy into spay/neuter ? I agree Peta has its own agenda. But every single shelter is overfludded with unwanted dogs, specially pitbulls, since many stupid BSL laws exist.

Breeding is often not the answer. You can promote spay/neuter and adoption of shelter dogs. No other country has so many unwanted dogs and kill shelters like the USA.
Specially the pathetic and archaic BSL laws, which do not work. They only target the innocent.

Gabeandbelle said...I am a dog breeder and I do take very good care of my dogs and puppies. I have AKC here for periodic visits and find my dogs and puppies are in great condition. I have many repeat buyers because my puppies are so well adjusted and cared for, I get great reviews from my new puppy parents and their vets. I have had people email me and harrass me many times over my breeding dogs (probably Peta etc.) My concern with getting a dog at a shelter is if children are involved some dogs are raised in such a way that they are afraid of kids and if the kids start running around screaming like kids do some dogs get scared and go after the kids not to hurt them but to find out why are they screaming then the poor dogs is put to sleep. My puppies are raised with my our grandchildren, I also run a daycare in my home so my dogs and puppies are very acclaimated to kids. So Peta etc. should just leave people like me alone and let us breed our dogs and raise our puppies so people can have a great companion for life.

Greg said...I do agree that no small child should be left unattended with any breed/size of dogs. The poll in the article was "do you trust your dogs with children" or something along those lines and to that over 90% responded YES.
OK- At least some of you are not being mislead by PETA/HSUS propaganda. See the comments above- both organizations are TOTALLY against all pet (& other domesticated animals including sheep, horses, etc) ownership/use by humans IN ANY FORM OR FASHION!! Read their own mission statements. Read the press articles. Read their own finacial reports. They are not just campainging against puppy mills/animal abuse. They are sponsoring mandatory spay/neuter legislation nationwide. They are behind initiatives to restrict breeding through licensing & breeding limits with the eventual aim of doing away with breeding altogether & I for one like the diferentiation between the breeds (all dogs were bred for a specific purpose). To "free the dogs" (ie- turn them all loose) would mean the loss of those differentiations resulting in a world overwhelmed by mutts who cannot fend for themselves- domestic animlas need human support.
And I am very much in favor of adoption... I have been rescuing dogs for some 40 years now... & seldom breed a litter (MAYBE once every 6-8 years) although I have been involved in the sport of pure bred dogs for almost 30 years. These organizations even want to do away with dog shows & dog sports like Obedience & Agility competition!!
Act as you will but these organizations are DANGEROUS!! (and they are not even the most militant ones) & must be stopped.

Jerry said...I don't know what PETA's policy is toward pet ownership, but no one needs to breed dogs. We have too many that end up dying in shelters or are abandoned on the streets because of irresponsible owners. They aren't toys to be cast aside; they are a commitment.

Ragdolz1 said...As a retired Ragdoll cat breeder, I agree 100% with Greg. Breeders are NOT the cause of the over population of pets. Visit your local shelters and pounds, while you will see some purebreds, the majority of those pets are random bred animals, mixed breeds. Responsible breeders sell pets either already spayed or neutered, or with spay/neuter contracts. Backyard breeders and mills do contribute to the problem by not requiring the pets they sell to be altered, but the biggest contributer to the problem lies in irresponsible pet ownership. Think about it, without selective breeding there would be no Golden Retrievers, Boston Terriers, Ragdolls, Persians, or just insert you favorite breed... it would not exist if not for selective breeding programs. Pet owners need to take responsibility for their pet's reproductive ability and have their pets spayed or neutered if that pet is not part of a serious breeding program (a program that is breeding for breed improvement, as opposed to breeding for the almighty dollar). That is what is going to reduce the unwanted pet population, not a ban on breeding. Personally, I think it would have been a sadder world to have never known the sweetness of a Ragdoll cat or the love and loyalty the English Mastiff has to offer. Banning breeding is NOT the answer.
