Looking for a fun and inexpensive way to countdown to Christmas? Try this.
So your budget doesn't allow for a new, fancy-pants Advent calendar ... no problem. Make a Christmas chain instead. This very simple art project from my youth serves the same purpose, and includes only the cost of some construction paper.
Cut red, green, and/or white construction paper into two inch strips. Fold each strip into a circle and staple, making a chain. If you want to get crafty, add some glitter or other adornments first. Then hang your chain from a doorway or your tree and let your kids start counting down the days until Santa finally comes.
