Disneyland Sacks Jack Sparrow
If you've got kids who were hoping to meet Captain Jack Sparrow, the swashbuckling pirate of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, on your next trip to Disneyland, I'm afraid they'll be out of luck. According to park officials, Jack Sparrow is no longer one of the characters that wander the park due to declining interest, but other sources say differently. One former Sparrow says that the character has been eliminated due to young women flashing their breasts at the actors playing him. Kids these days certainly seem to have less of an issue with exposing themselves than prior generations, but it seems odd to me that women would reveal themselves to actors in Disneyland. Aside from the whole family-friendly, kids-everywhere part, it's not like it's the real Johnny Depp.
Still, it seems most of the stuff folks under forty do makes no sense to me, so maybe I'm missing something here. Would you do this?

Nicola said...On my last trip to Disneyland, Jack Sparrow certainly WAS a popular character. But not with kids. The man was surrounded wherever he went by hordes of young women (and sometimes men!) grabbing at him and posing for photos. Probably not the image that Disney wants to portray with their wandering characters...

CJ said...I can totally understand why this character is being pulled. When my son joined the line to get an autograph, there were more women than children. They were primping, adding lipstick, breath mints, you name it. Crazy, crazy.
The kids love him, but when a character attracts more adults than kids, it's probably in Disney's best interest to pull him out.

Melissa said...I agree with Nicola....the last time we went to Disneyland (employee night lol) there were some young girls (umm hello, like teens) flashing the guy! I have a two year old daughter who is totally in love with Jack Sparrow, and a few months ago when we went, while I was pulling her shirt down, we had some little teenage girls and their MOM jump in front of us to see him! I mean, how rude....she cried, and they still were all smiles with Jack and then had the nerve to tell us thank you for letting them go ahead! B****es! Still sorry to hear Jack go though, the guy who usually plays him does an awesome job!

Ronda said...I agree Jack Sparrow is definitly a popular character and it is most likely Johnny Depp that the women are hoping to see. I also agree that flashing him in a public kid's theme park is probably not the best choice, however I do believe that if he were walking around a theme park and I saw him, I too may have the urge to flirt and have a picture taken with him as well. However I would leave the flashing part for a more adult appropriate atmosphere such as a bar or an outdoor concert where adults over 18 were expected to be. However one cannot always shelter our children from all of the cruelties of life, yet flashing at Disneyland does seem a little over the edge. I must tell you though that I too am a Captain Sparrow Fan and if there were a Johnny Depp look alike parading around I too may be tempted to expose myself to him and I am most certainly over forty, so I am guessing that the Captain Jack Sparrow character would be better suited if he were hired to parade somewhere else or possibly Disneyland could have an all adult happy hour where JohnnyDepp look alikes were allowed to parade around openly... Then possibly the mommies of the young children could enjoy their fantasies as well..

Ronda said...Besides people there is the simple fact that when I was a child the Pirates of Carribean just happened to be my favorite Disney attraction anyways. Could it be that I have always had a secret crush to those pirate type characters. There is just something very sexy about a pirate who wears an eye patch and staggers around, possibly these women are all going back to their original childhood, little girl fantasies of the bad boy who can rescue them.... Argh.....

LS said...Sorry to intrude on your little fantasy that you have going here, but Disney Parks are not the Playboy Mansion, and it is COMPLETELY inappropriate to flash or otherwise act out your sexual fantasies with an actor in the middle of the park!
Why would ANYONE think differently?
You want a little voyeurism, go to Vegas - they have pirates there. Leave the kids alone.

Ronda said...Wow, I must say that some kids momies are just a little too uptight. Geez lady I am a mommy too and when I was raising my boys at their young ages, I sure had no issues of knowing how to behave,, Some people just don't know how to take a joke I guess, thats really ashame, just because you have younger children doesn't mean you need to be so uptight. Just realize that no matter where you take your kids they will always be exposed to something that is not to your likeing, its how you teach them to react to those negative things that is really important, and that my Dear starts with how mommy reacts.. Have a nice time raising your child, but be careful how uptight you act, for it may just make your child a little unsure of how to react to the negative reality that goes on in this cruel world..

Ronda said...Oh I agree with the not flashing at Disneyland, however if a woman wants to flash themselves openly out in public don't you think it should be their own business and no one elses. I am just saying that a person always has the option to express themselves in the way they want to openly and as long as it really isn't harming anyone else then I see no problem with it. I also think that others who are offended by this have the option to turn the other way and not look or cover their eyes. Thats all I am saying, not that I agree with the flashing in front of children at a park such as Disney land, However I do need to agree that the Johnny Depp look alikes are hott and are quite a fantasy for some women.. lol

Appalled said...Ronda, honey, we are not uptight. You, dear, are the one with the issues. Since YOUR mommy seens to have failed to teach you better, let this mommy tell you that it is NEVER okay to flash someone in public. EVER. Ladies don't do that. (Some women do, but they are hardly ladies.) I am not uptight, I just have a few morals and understand what is private and what is not. And no, I don't think it's a woman's business and nobody else's if she decides to bare her boobs in everyone's face. We shouldn't have to shut our eyes or turn our faces in public places simply because you don' have the sense (or morals, or manners) to keep your shirt down. That's trashy, honey, and very tacky. You need to realize that YOU are the one who is out of step here, not everybody else. And PS-- flash your boobs in a public place where my kid can see you, and I'll be happy to explain it to you in person!

Ronda said...Dear Ms. Apalled, I never once said I would flash myself in front of a child,, I do have morals and I know better than that. All I said was maybe the women who were doing that to the Disneyland character known as the Sexy Pirate Captain Jack Sparrow were simply living out a fantasy. As far as my beliefs and morals they are just fine. I am just a very open-minded individual who doesn't get easily offended. I never once said that I agreed with them doing it at Disney in front of a young child. I simply stated that maybe the Park should consider having an all adult happy hour so that if something like that did occur no child would be around to see it. That is all I said.. I cannot believe that you are so offended by my own personal views and that you think I have issues. I am a person who likes to put another side to a controversial topic such as this to simply get others to try and open their minds up and view things a little differently instead of getting so upset about things, if that My Dear makes me a person with Issues, then I am proud to be like that, at least I am not afraid to think outside of the box, rather than conform to the rest of society's thinking, I HAVE A MIND OF MY OWN>> Thank you very much.. Oh yes and the threat about meeting me in person is somewhat funny ,for that just shows that you are one of those women who cannot handle someone else thinking outside of the box, man I feel sorry for your child when he or she decides to try and have a mind of their own..

Ronda said...Have you ever been to Mardi Gras, or to an Easy Rider event?? What would you do if you were to see such behavior, my God have you ever breast fed your baby in public, or would that be considered exposing yourself inappropriately, they're only breasts for Godsake..

gg said...Ronda, I do get and appreciate your point, but you are still not realizing that exposing erogenous zones in public for any reason, is just plain nasty and offensive in the wrong setting, such as a children's amusement park.
I understand you probably have a very sexual lifestyle. That's fine but stay in the colony because sexuality doesn't have to exist 24/7 everywhere unsuspecting parents go to with their kids. It's a huge affront. Don't you care about being an irritant for so many people in public places? If the answer is "no", then that is not normal healthy adult behavior, and you do have issues you should look into when you decide you want to be a healthy adult individual.
Frankly I don't think parents should take their children to Mardi Gras, for that is clearly an adult amusement. There are drunk sluts everywhere taking off their clothes. See how that works?

BSC said...hey Ronda, I'm a guy and I really would enjoy a good flashing, but sad to say, its illegal to flash in a public place and is not your or anyone elses right to do anywhere. I mean maybe you would enjoy me flashing you, but it is still illegal for me to do and is not my right. So not to tread on your fantasy, but stick to Mardi Gras if you want to do that.

Kitty said...Ah, yeah. I suppose I can understand, sort of. A simulair thing happened with Esmerelda, the very sultry and sexy gypsy from the Hunchback movie. Men went crazy for her!(creepier since she was a cartoon character, though)
Jack was brilliant, though. I didn't want to get out of line for a ride, because people flip OUT if you try to get back in for Splash Mountain(I was with my parents), and so was severly dissapointed when Jack was going by. He overheared me complaining and walks up to me, and asks if I'd like to take a picture with him. Needless to say, the girls who'd been following him around weren't too pleased!
Ah, I'll miss him.
