Miley Gets a Porsche - Moms Roll Their Eyes

Miley Cyrus turned 16 a few weeks back, and like all sixteen-year-olds, she was kind of hoping for a car. This week she got her learner's permit, and guess what! Her mom totally gave her a Porsche!
OMG!!!
It's not like Tish took Miley to the dealership and BOUGHT her a Porsche; like millions of American moms before her, Tish, who recently got a new car herself, gave Miley her old car. But instead of a minvan with 100,000 miles on it and permanent juice stains on the seats, Tish's old car is a Porsche Cayenne.
As you can imagine, Miley is thrilled. She had told People magazine that her dream Sweet Sixteen gift would of course be "a car, but we'll see ... I don't want to name a certain kind. I want my parents to know that I'm happy with anything that they get me. I know I'd be really lucky to even get a car."
Friends say that Miley is allowed to drive the Porsche to work when Mom is with her -- she only has a learner's permit, after all. And needless to say, she loves her new ride, even if it's really an old ride.
While it's commendable that Billy Ray and Tish didn't splash out on a new car for Miley, there's still something about a kid's first car being a Porsche that makes me roll my eyes just a bit. Because a hand me down Porsche is still a Porsche, after all. Then again, Miley Cyrus isn't exactly your normal teenager.
I wonder if my kids will love their juice-stained minivan as much?

After suffering the humiliation of driving The Van for a year, which was white with blue & red "racing stripes" along the bottom, and had the most gosh-awful fake patchwork denim apolstry, my Dad bought me a 4 year old maroon Z-28. It had a 350 engine that the previous teen-boy owner had "boared out" (I don't know the actual term) to a 400. No teen needs that kind of speed available.
It felt like I was sitting in a go-cart, and I felt every little ripple in the road along my spine, but my 17 year old self looked hot in it ;)
It will be 5 and 7 years before my daughters are old enough to drive. I doubt they will fight over my Pacifica (hey, I like it) but there would be a major tussle over the husband's charger.

Get them a bus pass and help save the planet.

Oh Yea! Like you wanted to ride the bus at 16!
I recycle like a crazy person and try to do (and teach my kids) all of the "right things" for the planet, but, when I was 16 I COULDN'T WAIT to drive!!
My parents got me a faded, beige, 1968 (15 yrs. old at the time), Dodge Dart with tin pop-riveted over a hole in the right, front fender and light green paint splatters here and there over the hood. It didn't have power steering or power brakes. It had an AM radio, no AC, hand-crank windows and hard, cold, plast-icky, vinyl seats. It weren't no Porsche, but I'll tell you, it was the best car in the whole world and my friends were so jealous!!!!
We ran all over in it and made some of my best high school memories! (No! You Pervs! NOT sex! -- that was years later in my boyfriend's car!) ;-)

For my 16th I got a push bike.
I couldn't wait to drive either (we're not legally allowed to start learning until 17 in the UK). But not everyone can afford to even pay for the petrol for a car never-mind give one to their kids.
My current car has hand-crank windows and no AC, torn fabric seats, a regular radio (FM!) - it's only 11 years old though.

I turned 16 in July, and my mom got 3 amazing shiny gorgeous cars...but they were hot wheels. Where I live, theres no way I would be riding the bus, there are drunk homeless people, high people, scary people and every time I've ever gone on the bus there is always a guy who "touches" himself (if you know what I mean). My mom barely lets me walk to the store thats a mile away (of course I live in the shady part of town). I dont think Miley is that good at what she does (singing/acting wise) but she has something that makes the little kids love her. I think her parents could have waited until she actually got her liscence (sp?) before they gave her a car, but whatever, she's not my kid so I cant say much.

The bus would also save on auto insurance and save some of my sanity. I don't love the idea of my kids on the open road!
Sadly, there isn't a bus stop within 5 miles of my home. I would never let my daughters walk or ride a bike that far, but may let a son if I had one. Double standard, I know.

Poor baby. My first car was an El Camino with 200,000 miles on it and I kept that car for 10 years! Maybe Miley can win a car on the Price Is Right like every other normal American.

Normal?
My parents bought me a car when I was 16, too!!
I don't know anyone who's won one on the Price is Right!!!
Besides, Miley has already made more money in her short life than me and my whole extended family will make in our entire lives!
I think getting her mom's old car - no matter what kind it is - is a great lesson for her!!
Most showbiz kids would take their money (or their parents' money if they're the stars) and buy the sharpest, most expensive car they can!
Kudos for trying to keep Miley's feet on the ground!!
I think its gotta' be the hardest job in the world!!!!!
Even at my age (44) her fame and money would turn my head!!
Just being honest, Folks!!

This entire family is nuts, a girl who just turned 16 with a learners permit does not need a Porsche

They are rich. What's a car to them. I think it's great that Miley got a used car.... Most celeb parents would of givin them a new one.

Her parents have been pimping her out for a good portion of her life, so why shouldn't she get the fruits of her labor? I think she's a talentless waste of space, generally, but she has worked for that money so it only seems fair that she be able to enjoy the rewards before her parents get a chance to spend it all.

What a sad little person you are. Do you begrudge everyone a little happiness in your life. That green eyed monster really is a terrible thing to carry around with you. Don't be so bitter when others get things in life. Whether you like her or not, she does work hard and yes, it is work. You just ask anyone in show business and they'll tell you the reality of it is far from the glamous and privilages you think it is.

Professional DJ here, I'll agree, she is low on the talent scale, like her father, but she has worked her 16 yr old butt off and deserves whatever car she can afford. I'm betting that some if not all of HER money bought that car anyway. This poor child will never know anything about a "normal" life. We should all be happy that she is not Coked out of her mind, Running around malls naked or Unmarried and pregnant at 16. She seems to be doing better than her peers.
Give the kid a break.

Seth,
Our children did not get cars for their birthdays however if they had worked and earned the money for one, even a Porche, they would have been allowed (with serious rules) to have one.
They are all grown and now each has their own car. The two that are married have 'family' type cars and the two that are still single have 'sporty' cars. Whoes business is it anyway shat kind of car she has access to? Your post makes you sound like a very jealous person who thinks any one who succeeds is a 'waste of space'. You have my sympathies. You might find life more pleasant for yourself if you simply acknowledged the success of others and were happy for them.Or maybe you could focus on your sucesses and be happy.

nice. a Porsche is Porsche. Regardless of age ,but a Porsche is not a toy on wheels as a rule to drive a Porsche requires a great deal of skill and experience, An advanced driving school of high performance cars would provide the training to drive a Porsche
not just by the Speedometer but by RPM's as well......

A Porsche is not a Porsche. This is a Cayenne. It's an SUV!! Big difference!! Try cornering hard in this and it will flip over This is not a Porsche sports car. It's a rich soccer Mommy car!! A marketing ploy so people can say they have a Porsche.
