Winter Break! Now What?
Filed under: Holidays, Activities: Family Time
Do you realize that for most kids, tomorrow is the last day of school before winter break? You've no doubt made plans for December 25th, but what about the other 10 or so days before they go back to school in January? With too much free time on their hands, kids can quickly turn into couch potatoes, whining about being bored and demanding food. Or maybe that's just my kid.At any rate, a day or two of lounging around in Christmas pajamas playing with new toys is fine. But when the doldrums set in and everyone starts getting cabin fever, it's time to do something. Here are some ideas for fun things to do to make the most of the precious free time you get with your kids at the end of the year.

I watched my 8 year old sing this morning, ran to 10 year old's school for her party, than back to 8 year old's school for her party.
I've been home for 10 minutes now and I am thrilled!
I am so looking forward to doing a bunch of nothin, besides the usual housework and errands.
Both sets of grandparents live locally, so our only "required" travel will be a 30 minute drive on Christmas Eve to hubby's sister's house. We may spend a night or 2 in Memphis visiting with my ate-husband's brother.
The girls will do a 1/2 day, maybe 2, of horse-riding camp. We'll finally have time to swim at the Y.
THE gift this year is a Wii, so I can probably get away with staying home all day for many, many days. For a stay-at-home Mom, I usually don't get to stay home often when school is in session.

Nicola said...The boy has a couple of days at home before Christmas (husband is taking the time off work) before I take him off to the west coast for three glorious weeks of vacation in my home town. So, he's actually out of school for FOUR weeks instead of two -- nightmare planning, but with travel as expensive as it is, it wasn't worth spending the money for only a week away (and we couldn't abandon my husband on Christmas!). We'll return to life as normal again in mid-January. If my sanity is still intact. Wish me luck!

I'll try and field work phone calls, and emails while my kids duke it out. Money's tight this year, so we didn't sign them up for any winter camps or anything, but I'm hoping Grandma will pitch in a little:)
I do get Christmas day, the day after and New Year's Day off, so that helps a bit.
