And Baby Makes 20! Duggars Welcome New Daughter
Filed under: Celeb Parents
Jordyn-Grace Makiya Duggar arrived on Thursday, just in time for a big family Christmas. She weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces and was 20 inches long, and was born via C-section. Father Jim Bob described baby Jordyn-Grace as "The ultimate Christmas gift from God. She's just absolutely beautiful, like her mom and her sisters."
The Duggar's ten sons and eight daughters range in age from 20 to just-arrived. Their oldest son, Joshua, recently married, so they can count a daughter-in-law in there, too. ParentDish recently had the opportunity to talk with them about how they manage all those kids. "Our goal as parents is to keep up with their hearts, not just their actions. They know they have a safe place to share their joys, failures and dreams," Michelle told us.

The Duggars in Times Square -- ain't it a miracle how the family gets through the streets of New York City without losing anyone. The reactions from people who encountered the Duggars on the street? As shown on their TLC series, most say the same thing: "17 kids? Wow."

All the kids play piano and violin and the girls play harp. According to the Duggar's site, "At 9:00AM, the older children help their buddies with their studies in phonics, math, violin & piano (J-O-Y- Jesus first, Others second, & Yourself last!). Then the older children start their music & individual studies - math, English, spelling & typing."

Josh Duggar, 20, the eldest sibling, married Florida native Anna Keller in September 2008. The two met at a home-schoolers' conference in 2006, said People.com. Josh Duggar said it was love at first sight and he spent the next two years courting Keller. "Dating means you're shopping around," he told the paper. "A courtship is the path toward marriage."

This was 42-year-old Michelle's 15th pregnancy (the family includes two sets of twins, Jana and John-David, and Jedidiah and Jeremiah) and her second C-section. The family are followers of an evangelical Christian movement called Quiverful, which teaches that children are a gift from God and that every child should be welcomed and loved.
Are they done having children? Father Jim Bob says no. "We both would love to have more," he said.

Jasmine said...Actually she doesn't have 20 children. This is her 18th child and her 16th pregnancy. They are saying that the 18th child now makes them a family of 20 -- 18 children + 2 Parents = (drum roll please...LOL) 20 people.

stacey said...ppsssttttt....they have 18 kids the parents make 20, so 15 pregnancies with two sets of twins is correct!

kristine said...whoops... so there are only 18 kids, sorry about that... but wouldn't that make 16 pregnancies anyway?
and I hardly think that comment space on ParentDish are meant for exclusively non-trivial issues. No reason to be rude!

For those who do not see the benefits of living in a large family, I feel sorry for you. Coming from one myself, a family of 8, we always put someone else first besides ourselves. Isn't that what brings happiness in to our lives? Sharing, giving, enjoying family. It's a good thing.

Of course, it may seem strange these days to have such a large family, but they take care of themselves and each other, they DON'T rely on anyone else to give them handouts, and they seem happy and loving. I wish I could be so relaxed and nurturing with my three children, and I envy their ability to manage their home so capably.

Lisa said...Anyone with anything negative to say can shut up. They are a lovely family that support themselves with better morals than 99.5% of our countries population. The children are happy and well loved and this society thinks they can bash them? Their 18 children get more attention from their siblings than your family does. They can teach us all about sharing and patience. They are well traveled, well educated, polite, and honest. You could not ask for better qualities in a human beings. They get bashed because simple minded people can't understand their concept of a large family. That is pure bull. I'm from a family of six and family is what carries us in tough times. If you never had it you probably can't understand it so no need to make yourself look ignorant.
And if you don't know it they get no public assistance. They make their money in real estate investments and don't need anyone's approval but the man above.

shawn said...You are an idiot. Have you seen any of the shows on this family? They do not get any public assistance, their children are all home schooled, and they are all perfectly fine with buying used clothing from the thrift stores. Unlike the usual welfare scum buckets, who buy name brand cigarettes and pop with the tax money from the sweat off my A**. Those are the ones whose kids are in daycare, (funded by the state), while they go to college, (funded by the state), using top of the line cell phone bought with welfare money, then when they do get a job the quit because it isn't fun to work for a living , it's easier to let to state pay for everything. This family is paying for their children through hard work and smart investments as well as smart purchasing. They built their own home, unlike you welfare scums who live in low rent housing again off the sweat of my A**. How dare you pass judgement on this family.
