And Baby Makes 20! Duggars Welcome New Daughter
Filed under: Celeb Parents
Jordyn-Grace Makiya Duggar arrived on Thursday, just in time for a big family Christmas. She weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces and was 20 inches long, and was born via C-section. Father Jim Bob described baby Jordyn-Grace as "The ultimate Christmas gift from God. She's just absolutely beautiful, like her mom and her sisters."
The Duggar's ten sons and eight daughters range in age from 20 to just-arrived. Their oldest son, Joshua, recently married, so they can count a daughter-in-law in there, too. ParentDish recently had the opportunity to talk with them about how they manage all those kids. "Our goal as parents is to keep up with their hearts, not just their actions. They know they have a safe place to share their joys, failures and dreams," Michelle told us.

The Duggars in Times Square -- ain't it a miracle how the family gets through the streets of New York City without losing anyone. The reactions from people who encountered the Duggars on the street? As shown on their TLC series, most say the same thing: "17 kids? Wow."

All the kids play piano and violin and the girls play harp. According to the Duggar's site, "At 9:00AM, the older children help their buddies with their studies in phonics, math, violin & piano (J-O-Y- Jesus first, Others second, & Yourself last!). Then the older children start their music & individual studies - math, English, spelling & typing."

Josh Duggar, 20, the eldest sibling, married Florida native Anna Keller in September 2008. The two met at a home-schoolers' conference in 2006, said People.com. Josh Duggar said it was love at first sight and he spent the next two years courting Keller. "Dating means you're shopping around," he told the paper. "A courtship is the path toward marriage."

This was 42-year-old Michelle's 15th pregnancy (the family includes two sets of twins, Jana and John-David, and Jedidiah and Jeremiah) and her second C-section. The family are followers of an evangelical Christian movement called Quiverful, which teaches that children are a gift from God and that every child should be welcomed and loved.
Are they done having children? Father Jim Bob says no. "We both would love to have more," he said.

Carla said...The Duggars are a great example of everything wrong with the world. These parents are such hypocrites. They exploit their family and children for profit, won't let their children watch television (yet they have no problem airing their personal lives on television to millions), don't believe their daughters should get a college education (wait, what year is this???) and there oldest child has to ask his parents to permission to even hold a girl's HAND. I worry for all those 18 kids, and the day when their little TV show gets cancelled and they have to think up some way to support their family that doesn't involve emotionally damaging them.

Marie said...Wow so many of you are angry!!! You cast so much hatred on a family who is taking care of themselves. They don't ask for any help!! Yes they have been on TV so are you jealous? You would have never known about them if someone wasn't impressed by them. Just remember they have NO debt, they love each other, and they teach responsibility. It is more than I can say for people that I know and see in the world. Orphans are in this world because someone didn't love them or their parents couldn't afford to take care of them so what is wrong with taking care of your own? Don't hate someone for having a different oppinion. Fix your own problems and try to spread a smile not hateful words!!!

Kitty said...The Duggers DO NOT live on contributions from anyone ..
They are both real estate agents . They own several rental properties... He was in the Arkansas State Senate . They do make money from the reality show . But they don't need the publics money ... If they can pay for these children . It's none of your business how many they have .

Cathy said...Having this many children in this economic day and age is unrealistic. My father was one of 10 and my mother one of 13 children (I am 61), but in those days more children helped support the family and the farm. But both of my grandmothers died an early death from the toll of what having and raising a large family did to them. I'm surprised Mrs. Duggar's doctor doesn't tell her to quit having babies!

old enough to remember said...I agree with you, Cathy. In the "old days", it was the norm to have many children to help out on the farm. Also, many of the children died from diseases or accidents, etc., so in the end, many families had far less children remaining alive. It also takes a tremendous toll on the woman's body. This article says Mrs. Duggar had 2 C-sections, but my newspaper said she had 3. Doctors usually suggest no more than 3 sections to prevent too much scar tissue. One last thing, a friend of mine is one of 7 children. Her mom had many "woman's problems" because of that number of births.

Lorna Burton said...I admire the faith that the DUGGARS have to raise such a large family.
This is actually not selfish but a selfless act to share and pour their lives into so many children. There is a special place in heaven for the biblical perspective they have chosen to have in parenting a quiverfull!!! We love you all DUGGARS.

Justin said...It seems that those who are attempting to defend the Duggars are completely ignoring the main argument most rational people have against this family. The argument is that the parents indoctrinate their children with their own beliefs. This leads to the blind acceptance of ideas and values that may not be factual or right. When people lose the ability to think on their own and form their own opinions based on rational thought, they are missing out on one of the greatest liberties life has to offer. Unfortunately, this happens in so many families today on many levels. However, the fact that TLC seems to be promoting such an extreme case is extremely frustrating.

I am truly sorry that these kids will Never Have The attention, time and resources availble to them that they could have had if the parents could have understood the bigger picture.
I had two, was step mom to three and honestly never regretted not popping out more. I Love mine have helped even more. If I had this many kids , sheesh I would be lucky to be to keep my sanity!!
Please folks you shame those who buy from a Skilled Breeder, and you demand everyone go to a shelter.... how about folks like these saving a life already here?? Heaven knows if they fall on hard times it will be the Tax Payers and not thier Church paying for all of these kids!
