Big Butts a Sign of Good Health!

Researchers say that while those with apple shaped bodies - where fat is stored in the midsection - were found to be more prone to type 2 diabetes and heart disease, pear-shaped bodies were less likely to suffer from these disorders.

Having a baby undoubtedly changes your body, no matter how many fitness gurus, personal chefs, and dietitians you can afford to have at your disposal. But that doesn't have to be a bad thing -- in fact, often times it's for the better!

Scientists have known for some time that there are different types of fat that accumulate in our bodies. "The surprising thing was that it wasn't where the fat was located, it was the kind of fat that was the most important variable," said researcher Dr. Ronald Kahn. "Even more surprising, it wasn't that abdominal fat was exerting negative effects but that subcutaneous fat was producing a good effect."
To be honest, I am a little confused by the details offered by Dr. Kahn. But any study that tells me it is okay to have a big butt is one I am happy to embrace.

No where in the study does it suggest that you should start eating like a pig and gain obscene amounts of weight. The study deals with body shape and how and where fat is stored and how it correlates to type two diabetes.

Theresa said...I think Oprah looks better since she gained her weight back. I do not know why she thinks she has to be super model thin. It is just not right. I have moved up to a size 12 as I got older, and I feel and look great. I wish someone would tell Oprah that we loved her before she lost her weight, and that she is beautiful just like she is. She is a strong and confident woman. A few extra pounds should not change that.

Sonja Dunbar said...Danielle sounds like someone who is obsessed with being thin and that being thin is be all, end all for good health. Not true! I've known more thin people who have had multiple health problems including heart problems and cancer. My mother is 101 and was never thin, as was her mother who lived to be 95 and her mother who lived to be 103. Another family of 5 sisters, the fattest one lived to be the oldest of them all - 102! The thinnest sister lived the shortest life. I am about the same size as my mother was at my age, considered quite overweight by today's standards. By the way, my mother and I both have/had big butts!!!

The sexiest women in Hollywood, I am using that as a reference because everyone knows who these women are, are by far the sexiest. Eva Mendes or Madonna. Who do you think is sexier? I do not like the term pear shaped but I like apple shaped even less.

Mandy said...People are one of three basic body types: endomorph (softer, not a lot of muscle), mesomorph (builds muscle quickly) or ectomorph (thin with little muscle tone). You can adjust your eating and exercising habits to try to shape your body, but you cannot make your body something that it is not and never will be. Some people will always have a larger bottom or be a little soft because that's the way they were made. It doesn't mean they're fat or unhealthy.

Danielle said...Storing excess fat anywhere is bad. The article IS talking about body shape, but also FAT. Fat is bad, period. As a matter of fact, 34 percent of people in the US are considered OBESE and 32 percent are considered OVERWEIGHT. . . That's 66 percent of the population! THAT'S why there is an increase in cases of diabetes in younger people (TYPE 2), and heart disease. But, that's okay, if 66 percent of the population want to stay in denial, go for it! I'm staying educated and working hard to eat right and exercise to keep the fat off.
And, by the way, I said NOTHING about eating like a pig and gaining obscene amounts of weight. I think Eileen needs to work on reading comprehension.
