Adolf Hitler Campbell Removed From Parents' Home
Filed under: In The News, Weird But True
Remember little 3-year-old Adolf Hitler Campbell? How could we forget the poor New Jersey boy whose parents saw no harm in naming their son after one of the world's most notorious murderers? Perhaps now they are beginning to see how that wasn't such a great idea. According to Holland Township police chief David Van Gilson, Adolf and his younger siblings JoyceLynn Aryan Nation and Honszlynn Hinler have been removed from their parents' home by the New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services. The children's father, Heath Campbell, denied to a reporter that his children were taken and, as is their policy, the Division of Youth and Family Services would not comment. But Chief Gilson says that the kids were taken last week in the presence of a township police officer. He goes on to say that a hearing is scheduled for Thursday to decide whether the state can place the children temporarily in another home.
Top Baby Names 2008
The results are in and the top baby names for 2008 have been determined according to Babycenter.com. And despite the celebrity weirdness of late (Zuma Nesta Rock? Bronx Mowgli?) average parents are sticking with average names for their offspring.
For boys, Aiden retained his spot as the number one name (a position held since 2005), followed by Jayden, Ethan and Jacob. For the girls, Emma made a return to the number one position, knocking off last year's Sophia and beating out Isabella and Olivia. Seeing as how this was an election year, it isn't surprising to find that presidential names were popular with lots of boys being named Jackson and Tyler and girls getting Madison, Taylor and Kennedy.
Babycenter's editor-in-chief, Linda Murray says the results show a trend toward classic and old-fashioned names. "Times have changed and people are taking the world more seriously, affected by what is going on the world," she said.
Yes, it seems that most parents don't want their children being teased and chose names that would reflect something positive about them. For boys, parents said they wanted names that represented strength, kindness and compassion, compared to the strength and individuality they were going for in 2007. For girls, parents were looking for something that expressed kindness, compassion, intelligence and strength. Last year, they were looking for femininity and individuality.
I can't help but notice that for both boys' and girls' names, parents seem to have lost the desire for names that express individuality. Why do you suppose that is?

Gilson didn't say why the children were removed from the home or where they were taken, but says his department has received no reports of abuse or neglect.
Since the story of Adolf and his family hit the news, Heath Campbell says he has received numerous threats. I find that disturbing, but not surprising. And while I am heartbroken for these children, I am somewhat relieved. With such inappropriate names, these kids are facing a lifetime of hardship, rejection and worse.
"If names are bad because they're likely to cause children problems, where do you draw the line?" queries Laura Wattenberg of BabyNameWizard.com. Right here. Perhaps action taken now will prevent that from happening.

Charles Sanders said...At least MOST respondents agree this is not abuse. Parents give their kids stupid names all the time (like "Shaquanda" and "Plaxico"), but "Barack" has proven that a stupid or "un-American" name is no impediment to getting a really good job.
Last time I checked this was still America, and parents are allowed to rear their children with whatever prejudices they desire...the Public School System certainly does. It looks to me like the various Child Protective Services across our once great nation are becoming enforcement arms for the "Thhought Police". Let's hope they don't get away with this one.

Miriam Hoover said...Children should NOT be saddled with the names of evil people. Let the parents name themselves, not their innocent children. This shows how they are placing burdens on the children right from the start. This is a sign of other problems to come. The children should go to a better home.

Debbie said...Unfortunately being an idiot cannot prevent you from having children. If it was just their names that got them taken away ...serious violation of civil rights. Now those idiots will have reason to sue and make money. Who is the idiot now... the taxpayers that will have to foot the bill for foster care and an inevitable law suit if there are no findings of abuse.

Whether we agree or disagree a family should be able to name there kids what they want to and not worry about getting there kids taken away. For gods sakes they elected a president named hussein-whats the difference? I thought this was the land of the free? Yah right-

ItalyBelle said...If there was no sign of abuse or neglect on the part of the parents and this child was strictly taken away for his name then why not just court order the parents to change it? He is still young enough to not even know the difference and before he started formal education where he would be known by that name. His name is terrible and will likely have adverse reactions his whole life but it isnt written in stone and there's still a chance to correct the problem.

We have this crazy notion that we have this thing called freedom and just run of willy-nilly doing whatever we want! God forbid! Someone could get hurt! It's all fun and games till someone loses an eye and someone else takes an eye in return!

Tom said...It is ironic that a government organization (CPS),that act like Nazis take children out of a neo Nazi home.I find this family`s political views utterly disgusting especially having members of my family killed by the Nazis. But since when do we remove children from a home simply because a government agency finds someone`s world view repellent? Whats next, government agencies remove children from homes because they are raised to believe in the Constitution? Most Americans do not know that in CPS actions to take children out of homes, the Bill Of Rights is totally ignored. No right of trial by jury, in many cases no warrant, reading of rights and the courts are little more than puppets of CPS. And if you resist handing over your kids, the CPS people will instigate the use deadly force if necessary.
Now who is the Nazis here?

I believe from what I've read so far in the news, that the parents named their children those names for their own twisted reason, which in our society we would say that was wrong and sick. I believe the CPS did right so far, if the parents are not mentaly right ,the children are safer and will do better in a better inviroment. They will have problems with their names as they get older. How many other children have you hear of being named Marilyn Manson, Jeffery Dalmer and so on.

Kathryn said...In our country, our bill of rights protects you no matter what you believe (or it is supposed to). In the McCarthy era we saw persecution of communists or those who may have had any association with communists, no matter how peripheral. That era also brought about the insertion of "under god" into our pledge, in direct opposition to the author of the pledge who thought all Americans should be able to pledge allegience to their country regardless of religious belief and the addition of "in god we trust" to our money. FYI Atheists do not attack religious people. In fact most atheists I know would fight to preserve your right to be whatever religion you wish. We do, however, attack the insertion of your particular religious belief, whatever it may be, into public life. I remember all too well the look on the faces of my jewish classmates as Christian doctrine was endorsed by the schools and the harrassment my daughter endured because she would not join the christian athlete's assn. etc. No one should be put into that position in our schools or public life. I always wondered why forcing public prayer is so important to Christians. Is their god unable to hear prayers that are unspoken? Or prayers that are said at home? Is it really reasonable to ask their god to help them do better on a test or win a sporting event? How petty and selfish.
I wonder if your child were attending a school in a district that was predominately Muslim..would you agree that the teachers should lead muslim prayers in your child's class? Should a jewish teacher be required to say the Lord's prayer? You have all the freedom to practice your religion on your own time at your own expense so why do you require others to kow tow to your beliefs?

I guess the state feels that giving children such names is abuse as thier lives will not be pleasant.

However many kids in the foster care system end up getting physically and sexually abused. How ignorant that the NJ CPS take children from a apparently stable home even though their neo Nazi views are sickening to say the least. Those kids will end up worse off in the system than they are at home.

The gonvernment doesnt have control over that nor should they! Its really sad if its proven those kids are cared for and not neglected and they were simply taken away bc there parnets named them stupid names im sure just for attention or bc they were rased by white trash! Like CPS are any better at taking care of kids............. Look how many die every year in foster homes approved by the state. Maybe you should worry about those kids insead of kids that have a home and seem to be cared for?

To bring hatred towards one's children by a name choice is totally selfish (parents) but to uproot a child and take away their sense of security if there is no physical or mental abuse is criminal. If that is the basis for their removal from the home as this article suggests, then all parents should be worried.
