Stork Craft Cribs - Product Recall
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced the recall of about 535,000 Stork Craft Baby Cribs due to faulty support brackets. These metal brackets, which support the crib mattress and mattress board, can crack and break. When one or more is broken, the mattress can collapse and create a dangerous gap between the mattress and crib rails. This poses an entrapment and suffocation hazard to children.CPSC is aware of ten such incidents of broken supports, several in which the mattress collapsed. In one case, a toddler sustained bruises to his forehead and in another, a child became trapped in the gap between the mattress and the drop side rail.
The recall involves Stork Craft Baby Cribs with manufacturing and distribution dates between May 2000 and November 2008. You can find the manufacture date, model number, crib name, country of origin and the company's name, address and contact information located on the assembly instruction sheet attached to the mattress support board. The company's insignia, "storkcraft baby" is inscribed on the drop side teething rail of some cribs. The cribs were sold in various styles and finishes.
These cribs were made in Canada, China and Indonesia for Stork Craft Manufacturing Inc., of British Columbia, Canada. They were sold at major retailers including J.C. Penney, Kmart and Walmart stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com, Babiesrus.com, Costco.com and Walmart.com from May 2000 through January 2009 for between $100 and $400 each.
CPSC urges parents and caregivers to immediately stop using the recalled cribs and find an alternative, safe sleeping environment for their baby. Consumers should contact Stork Craft to receive a free replacement kit, with new mattress support brackets. You can reach them by calling (866) 361-3321 anytime to order the free replacement kit or by visiting their Website.

Cindy said...I have been trying to get through for weeks. I sent an email but you get no response as to when or if they received it and sent the replacement brackets. Also I have called the phone number on their site and I have literally spent hours on hold and have yet to speak to anyone. This is very poor customer service.

Trish said...I have one of the Stork Craft Heather cribs, purchased in May 2008 from Walmart. I have had no problems with the brackets, but when I was trying to adjust the level of the crib the board the brackets attached to cracked and broke! It is cheap particle board, very thin. Now I need a new board and am hoping since the stupid crib was recalled they will send me that too. Anyone else have problems with the board? I am so disgusted with this whole thing I am not even going to buy another crib! My baby cosleeps with me anyway, think I'll just keep that up till he's two, then buy a toddler bed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Renee said...I called CPSC at (800) 638-2772. I told the woman I spoke with how I and many other people can not get through to get our brackets for our childrens cribs replaced. She did take down my information (name, address, phone number) and said it is their job to make sure we get the things we need ASAP as this is an inconvienence. She said that her supervisor will get in contact with some "big guy" at StorkCraft and that I should be expecting a call from them soon so that I can get my brackets. She said that it is best to contact them when having problems because the have ways of making sure things go right. I just wanted to let everyone know. I hope this helps!
P.S. Hope you little one is getting good sleep in the pack n' play!! I know mines not!!

Jim said...I purchased a Jenny Lind Conv. Crib (Stork Craft) at Sears in April 2008. Model 04562-15L. Manufactured in October 2006 in China.
The right side crib mattress support broke. I reported this Februray 8th on the recall site and thought I would have heard or had replacement parts by now.
There has been no response confirming that my email had been received or that replacement parts had been Fed-Exed like the website indicates.I have tried calling for two days with no response. Today the phone numbers all ring "busy".

Chris said...I have one of these recalled storkcraft cribs. I had emailed the company, they took 2 weeks to respond, said I would have the parts in a few days ("being sent on a first come first serve basis") fedexed... 3 weeks later and I still didn't have them! Tried to call, and the phone number was always busy. I didn't want to email again and wait another couple of weeks. I made a call to a service I have and within a week, Storkcraft Fedexed (NEXT DAY) the parts to me. I just received them today. I will be more than happy to share with you how I did it. I can be emailed at csramsey35@gmail.com or called (910) 545-2136. My name is Chris.

Beth said...I sent emails to storkcraft requesting replacement parts on Jan-17, Jan-23 and Feb-3 (no response). I sent a snail mail letter and was notified via email on March-3 that my order was being processed and would be sent via Fed Express.
I sent follow up emails on 3-15 and 3-24 requesting an update. I called dozens of times and never reached a human :-(
I finally called the consumer product safety commission and filed a verbal complain today, March 24th. Storkcraft emailed me 3 hours later and gave me a Fed Ex tracking number. It was allegedly mailed today. I hope so! My suggestion, call the CPSC and complain if you can't get a response.
