Sasha Obama Brings the Ugly Doll to the White House

I love Ugly Dolls -- they're plushy and soft, sure, but they're also a nice antidote to the usual super-sweet kid stuffed toy. Because they're ugly, see! And I have boys, which means that we don't have a lot going on at my house in the "doll" category, other than the Uglys. And I'm not the only parent of boys who has fallen for the Ugly Dolls -- Donald McNeil wrote a piece for last spring's New York Times where he pointed out that "there is no doubt that there is something preternatural about the boy-Ugly bond."
But now, thanks to First Kid Sasha Obama, the super hip Ugly Doll isn't just a boys' toy any more. On her first day of school at Sidwell Friends, seven-year-old Sasha was spotted with an Ugly Doll keychain hanging from her backpack. Specifically, Sasha was toting a Babo's Bird doll: "Babo can't stand birds! They always eat the crumbs his cookies leave behind! Well, too bad because one bird has taken a liking to Babo and now likes to call him mommy." I doubt that Sasha worried about whether her Babo was a boy toy or a girl toy, but it's kind of cool to see a girl with something other than a Hannah Montana accessory on her bag. Shakes things up a little.
As for the acualy Babo's Bird Ugly Doll, this thing is so ugly that it's ... well, it's cute. For boys and girls.

I personally think they are a really cute, fun and new idea. But really, who cares? If you like em, great, if you do not, great. Victoria said...Has anyone seen the product "Baby can Read"? I have a Godson whose parents purchased the program and amazingly, he can read the flash cards with many four, five, and six letter words. He is not yet two. It is an amazing program and is a great tool to help your child learn to read. Even the older children can benefit from it. I'm planning on getting the program for my little niece.

It we want our country to be first we have to purchase for our children what we want them to have, and that, in itself will cause a trend, as each of our children, across the country, are leaders themselves. Give your kids more credit as to what they can do with what you give them. Invest what you have wisely, and we can get back to where we belong as a nation, leaders not followers.This has little to to with President -Elect Obama children and more to do with being a leader in your own household.
