Amelia Yvonne Ramirez is the fifth Ramirez child, so her parents weren't expecting anything out of the ordinary. Even before they could make it out the door on the way to the hospital, however, Amelia decided she wanted out. "I said, 'No, it can't be coming," said Ramirez, 34. "It can't. That's not even in the realm of reality.'"
But indeed it was. With his wife, Lisa, 31, standing up and leaning on the sofa, Ramirez knelt down and his daughter slid right into his arms. "I basically went by what I had seen the doctors doing for the other four babies," he said. "I thought, 'I can't do this.' But there was nothing else I could do. It was me. That's it. I said, 'Craig, it's all you, man.' "
Little Amelia started crying immediately, a good sign. And with a little bit of help from a 911 operator, Craig used a shoelace from his New Balance running shoes to tie off the umbilical cord. Both Amelia and her parents are doing great.Ramirez says he can't wait to hear the 911 tape of his call, but he's not looking forward to the delivery jokes when he returns to UPS. "Wow, I can't believe I delivered one of my children," he said. "I'm glad it went well... My work is going to have a field day."

Kent said...What is the big deal about delivering your own child? I delivered both of my last two. The last one in a friend's RV trailer ... breech.
In the years explaining the history of the world, it has been more common place than NOT ...
For anyone considering it and wanting some instruction, find a copy of "Where there is no doctor" published by the Hisperian Foundation. ( It was originally published as 'Adonde no hay doktor'. I used this book and a lot of instruction from a nurse that was a former lover.

Have to work part-time swing shift hours in the warehouse for at least 5 years before they'd even consider putting you on the road. They pay good if you don't mind being a suck ass robot.Seeing the drivers run out of their trucks with a package and run back to the truck wearing those stupid Buster Brown uniforms cracks me up.They drive like idiots and i go out of my way to get in their way and slow them down.Heads will roll at the end of the shift!! It's a good job if you're the ultimate yes man without any dignity.

I gotta disagree Strat' ...learn your contract and you'll get plenty of dignity. If it's the fair days pay for the fair days work that offends you...That I can't help you on. As for the 'good job'... without using my college degree I earned $92,000 last year, received excellent no cost to me medical, dental, vision and legal insurance. Funded another year of my pension which is at $4500 a month available next year for me and funded a secondary pension. In addition a 401k and a stock program with a 10% discount. Paid me 6 weeks vacation, 10 option days, 7 sick days, and all the major holidays. Even paid for all my spiffy brown uniforms. I'll be able to retire at 53 if I so desire. Yeah, not a bad decision after college.

Kim said...This is nice, but I had a home birth with all eight of my babies...on purpose and guess who was there to catch...Dad. Had the same midwife for all in case of emergency, but all was smooth and textbook. Not so uncommon anymore to have a baby at home. Glad all went well for them, maybe next time they will just plan on skipping the trip all together, It is wonderful to be able to do this, but I know it is not for everyone.

They were all the rage a few years ago and it seems that people who thought they'd get rich raising the new fad pet are now selling them to the follicle-impaired. If you really have been bitten by one, you will know that they hold on forever! Hope you like the color.
