Five Spring Trends to Wear Right Now

Categories: Just For Moms, Mommy Musts

Fashion magazines are full of spring trends right now, but outside the driveway is full of snow, and the only clothes that seem worth buying are the ones that keep every inch of you covered and warm. Instead of pining for warmer days and fewer layers of clothes, start wearing springs best trends now -- give your winter gear a fresh new look.

Runway trends don't often seem practical, but if you look past the wafer-thin models with their impossibly high heels and impossibly small thighs, the runway can be an inspiration for everyday. Shop smart for trendy pieces -- watch for cool jewelery and bags at places like Target, and use color to wake up the everyday.

Some of this spring's trends aren't meant for everyday wear but others are perfect for busy moms. Here are our five favorites, with tips on how to work them now and later.

doo miTrade your black for gray. Wear it now with a bright scarf or parka, and later with crisp whites. A gray sweater is a classic, but look for skirts and trousers in silvery hues as well.

Pile on the big jewelery. Over-sized necklaces and bangles are huge for summer; wear them now with a sleek turtleneck or tee, in multiples. Once the weather warms up, pair with a tank or sundress.

Think pink! No matter what shade you choose, pink is this summer's hottest shade, but don't wait until the weather heats up to get a punch of color; add a bright pink scarf or sweater to your closet now. A silk scarf is perfect with a wool sweater or a plain tee, and won't cost a fortune. The dress at right, from Doo Mi, is perfect for day or evening.

Toss your skinny jeans. Make room in your closet for a looser, more relaxed fit -- perfect for moms on the go! Look for cool cargo pockets and hems that can be rolled up or down. Wear them now with boots and later with sandals; pair with sweaters and tees and tanks.

Mix up your patterns. Pair a stripe with a floral, or a plaid with some polka dots -- keep patterns in the same color family, and balance the scale. If you're unsure about mixing and matching, try similar patterns in different sizes -- two plaids, say, or two florals.
