Sarah Palin Named Daughter Bristol After ESPN (Sort Of)
"Two meanings in Bristol's name," Palin began. "I worked at the Bristol Inn and Todd grew up in Bristol Bay. But also, Bristol, Connecticut, is the home of ESPN. And when I was in high school, my desire was to be a sportscaster. ESPN was just kicking off, just getting off the ground, and I thought that's what I was going to do in life, is be one of the first woman sportscasters."

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her husband Todd have five children with short, masculine and certainly unique names: Track, 19, Bristol, 18, (with Levi Johnston), Willow, 14, Piper, 7, and Trig, 8 months (not pictured). Read More

"We both love each other," Levi Johnston, 18, told the AP in a rare interview about his relationship with 18-year-old Bristol Palin. "We both want to marry each other. And that's what we are going to do."

"Trig is beautiful and already adored by us," read a statement by the Palin when Trig was born on April 18. "We knew through early testing he would face special challenges, and we feel privileged that God would entrust us with this gift and allow us unspeakable joy as he entered our lives. We have faith that every baby is created for good purpose and has potential to make this world a better place. We are truly blessed."

"Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned," the Palins's statement said when they announced her pregnancy. "As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows that she has our unconditional love and support."

Chuck Heath, 70, (pictured with wife Sally), Sarah Palin's father, said gift boxes for his newest grandson are piling up in the governor's mail room from all over the world. There's no way the family will ever be able to answer every letter, he said, although they are trying.

Sherry Johnston, Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston's other grandma -- besides Sarah Palin -- pled not guilty for charges of selling OxyContin. "I was in pain, and I'm still in pain," she told People.com.

By giving her kids offbeat names (Will, Piper, Trig, Track and Britsol) it seems Palin wants her kids to have an edge to them. These names are short, masculine and certainly unique. And kids with masculine names are encouraged to pursue traditionally male fields like science, as opposed to girls with more feminine names, according to a recent study published in the Journal of Human Resources. Could be Palin wanted to give Bristol a strong name in case she decides to run for office one day.
In unrelated news, a New York federal judge criticized Palin for carrying her son Trig on stage after a vice-presidential debate last year. "That kid was used as a prop," said U.S. District Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald during a settlement conference involving a little boy with Asperger's syndrome. "And that to me as a parent blew my mind."
That's not exactly fair. Her entire family stepped on stage after the debate; it's not as if she carried Trig on alone. If Trig hadn't come on stage, Palin would have been accused of "hiding" her son. If he does come on stage, she's accused of using him like a "prop."
The woman can't win. Would do you think?

ChaplainJudi said...I sure agree Jeannie... the media and many other's are so hypocritical when it comes to Sarah Palin... Just look at the names many of the Hollywood Actor's and Actresses name their children and no one is scratching their head or ripping them apart...same for minority groups.... I think Sarah and her husband did a pretty good job of naming their children...Plus, she is now being ripped apart in many areas that have so much to do with the culture issues in Alaska. They do things differently then in most of the other states... but she is being 'blamed' for the culture Alaskan's have lived in for a long time. Ashley Judd is a good actress...and I have some of her movies because she brings out 'abuse issues concerning women' ... and I don't judge her for the type of movies she does...but she has decided to 'judge' Sarah Palin. I for one can do without any of Ashley Judd's movies if she continues judging others. God's word says 'if we judge other's we will be judged' ... sincerely, judi

JanP said...If Palin would stay in Alaska and take care of HER state instead of hopping around the country sucking up to every political big wig she can find, we might just leave her alone. However, her state is suffering from loss of tax revenue due to lower gas prices, the inuit are having to choose between heat and food, and she is in Washington D.C. at an exclusive dinner that has nothing to do with Alaskan business.

I am a female and these stupid men all think she is so hot and they probably are banging her instead of their loyal wives. I think women stand an excellent chance of making a name for themselves in this man's world but not the way Palin is going about it. She is a total moron!!!

Case in point - her pregnant unmarried teenage daughter. Anyone that says the press would not have been all over that if it had been Obama's daughter is just plain crazy. And on top of that would have been James Dobson and the rest of the so called moral majority. It is the hypocrisy that is so aggravating.

Rachelle said...Yeah, if Obama had a pregnant teenage daughter the news media would have been all over it but they would have been applauding his support and her 'sacrifice' rather than bashing the entire family...the news media was anything but 'unbiased' this last election!
And personally I think the attack on Palin for having a child with Down Syndrome was extremely reprehensible. No child should be murdered just because the parents don't want to take care of a 'handicapped' child. Everyone deserves to live. Just because we, as a society, see them as handicapped and unable to live a normal life doesn't mean that their life is worth less than the preconceived notion of what is 'normal'. I applaud her love and support of her entire family. I think she is a wonderful role model.

Jeannine said...Sarah Palin was talked about by James Dobson, he said he applauded her for family values. I believe one of the reasons she is sooo hated is she represents a life of responsilibility. As Americans we have become a society of people who want to live for today and not think of how our actions do have an affect on others. We want to live immorral, reckless lives and expect the Government( which is all of our citizens) to "bail" us out. There is no such thing as " I can do what ever I want,as long as I don't hurt anyone" That is an outright lie. Whether we do what is right or wrong, we have an affect on people. My life does affect your life and so your life affects mine. I stand behind Sarah Palin and her family and look forward to her running again in 2012. PS I am my brother's keeper.

CK said...Sarah is a role model? Please. If she were a democrat you would be all over her so please admit it. As for Sarah getting on the plane AFTER her water broke and flying all the way to Alaska where she got in a car and drove hours to get to her hometown? I don't think that sounds like a responsible mother at all. She put the child's life in danger.

Barbara said...I agree that the baby should have been onstage if the rest of the family was up there, too. However, what I noticed every time the family came on stage with her was that she would make sure that she held the baby just long enough for a photo op and then would pass the baby off again. She never held the baby more than a minute or so.....That's why people think the baby was used as a prop.

I think often we so easily criticize without really thinking that we are talking about real people who have real families with real feelings. It's wonderful to live in a country where we can freely give our opinions; however, I do believe that Sarah Palin is a courageous woman who loves her family & her country. I think it's very petty to pick her apart because she stands up for values & principles that many people also value.

M said...That baby should have been IN BED ASLEEP, not on a stage in bright lights and what had to be incredible noise. Frankly, most of those children should have been at home in bed. I'd like to know who pays for the care for all of those children, on and off of the campaign trail. I suspect the State of Alaska foots part of the bill.

Sally said...I wish that the people who are criticizing Sarah Palin for everything they can think of, would "get a life". Sarah Palin is one of the most refreshing, honest, real person we have had in politics. Start focusing on all the politicians who haven't paid their taxes, and are so dishonest with the public.!!!!! Why don't we , as a society, support a woman like Sarah Palin who defines the modern woman in all ways----- serving her country as the Gov. of Alaska, and having a family that she is proud of and wants the country to see. I am so annoyed at people like Ashley Judd, part of the Hollywood liberals, who finds fault with anything that is the least bit conservative in nature. The wolf killing was done for good reasons, not just to kill wolves for the sake of killing. What is wrong with her???? Maybe, she needs more publicity. Who knows??????? Let Sarah Palin alone and beware, because, I feel, she is coming back and will be stronger and better than ever. Hurrah.!!!!!

Stephanie said...Maybe so...but let's face NO matter what Sarah Palin does..there's always a comment about it????? Besides it was a special night....why shouldn't the whole family be there to share in it?

Donna said...The idiot that said her children should have been in bed, obviously doesn't have a family. This was a big night and Mrs. Palin wanted and should have her family with her and her husband. When you have children you want them with you as much as you can. And as another person wrote, the other guy had his children on stage. Sarah Palin is an intelligent woman and seems to be a good mother. People made so much out of her daughter being a pregnant teenager, that is happening every day in every state in the U.S. What should she have done, hide the child? I applaude her for standing up for her daughter and grandchild to be. All I can say is that I hope she runs again, for President next time. Obama being President is wrong, he is not qualified and some people are already opening their eyes and ears to that.
