The message on the welcome screen thanks the public for the love and good wishes the family has received. She also shares the good news that the babies are getting healthy and stronger by the day. The clincher? Nadya then posts her publicist's address (since when do people on the dole have a publicist?!?) as the contact for people to mail cash or checks.
Give me a break.

The Southern California woman who gave birth to octuplets on Jan. 26 had the embryos implanted at a Beverly Hills clinic run by a controversial doctor, it was revealed Monday. Here, Dr. Michael Kamrava is shown performing an ultrasound on a pregnant Nadya Suleman in 2006. In addition to the octuplets, Suleman has six other children, ages 2 to 7.

Suleman is shown with two of her children in 2006. The single mom told NBC's 'Today' show that she was "fixated" on having children. She said all 14 of her children were conceived through in vitro fertilization with sperm donated by a friend. She said she used the same doctor for all her pregnancies.

Suleman looks at an ultrasound of her unborn twins in 2006. She told NBC that she is not "living off the taxpayers," but she has accepted food stamps. RadarOnline.com reported that she is living in a hotel room, although it's not clear who is paying for the room.

NBC's 'Today' broadcast footage Monday of Suleman visiting her octuplets in the California hospital where they were born Jan. 26. There are six boys and two girls.

Suleman did not disclose the name of her doctor, but she said on 'Today' that she went to the West Coast IVF Clinic in Beverly Hills. Its director is Kamrava, shown being followed by reporters Monday. Kamrava, 57, would not comment, but told reporters outside his clinic on Rodeo Drive that he had granted an interview to one of the television networks.

Kamrava enters his office Monday. Some fertility specialists have questioned his methods. "He's tried some novel techniques and some of those methods have been controversial," said Dr. John Jain, founder of Santa Monica Fertility Specialists. Ethicists have questioned the decision to implant so many embryos in Suleman, saying the health of both the mother and babies were at risk.

Without identifying the doctor, the Medical Board of California said last week that it was investigating Suleman's physician to see whether there may have been "a violation of the standard of care." The board said Monday it has not taken any disciplinary action against Kamrava in the past.

This is the building where Kamrava's clinic is located. Many have questioned why a doctor would help a single woman with six young children and no visible means of support to conceive more babies.

Suleman's financial situation is certainly dismal. After all, this single mom doesn't have a job, lives at home with her parents (who aren't exactly pleased about running a daycare in their home), and owes a reported $50,000 in student loans and millions of dollars in medical bills. Let's face it: It's the taxpayers who will ultimately have to clean up her financial mess. If Nadya is on welfare that means California residents are paying for her lifestyle in an economy where people can barely afford to feed their own kids. What's more, the Wall Street Journal reported that the state may postpone $4 billion in payments for college grants, welfare and income tax refunds.
It's not just the state that's bearing the cost, though. For most families, the price of having a baby is covered by insurance. Multiple births are just plain expensive, though. There's no getting around it. I just wonder if insurance companies will raise insurance premiums related for pregnancy and childbirth to protect themselves from an octo-nightmare like the one currently unfolding in California.
So let me get this straight: Nadya Suleman is not responsible enough to hold a job yet she gives birth to eight kids when she already has six in a state with dwindling resources? And if she has no money, how did she pay for her IVF -- much less the all-too-obvious plastic surgery she's had on her lips and nose?
I will also go out on a limb and say this: Having octuplets just sounds like weird science to me. Can you imagine breastfeeding eight newborn? Changing eight dirty diapers all day and all night? Bath time won't be a special bonding experience for mother an baby; it'll be a veritable assembly line. And that goes for all those other one-on-one (or two-on-one) snuggle times parents have with their tots.
Should Nadya be asking the public to pay for her family? Is she doing what any 21st century person would do, which is capitalize on her fame? Or has she made her bed and should lie in it?

CLM said...Not a dime. Not a penny. If she couldn't afford to raise them, she should not have had them in the first place. This was not an accidental pregnancy, in which case I would be all for supporting her. This was deliberate and everyone involved should be paying the price, not the rest of us.

zee said...Nope. Not a penny! I'd like to know WHERE she got the funds to afford a fertility specialist not once but twice. This is every bit as bad as the 'bailout stimulus' those dipsticks in Washington have shoved down her throats. I"m not her babies daddy and I don't appreciate being forced to be it!

Karen said...Absolutely. She had those babies deliberately as a cash cow. Isn't that a form of child abuse? Those poor children should be given to families who could take proper care of them, and not use them as bread winners.

kyoteee1 said...The State of California needs to immediately take custody of ALL of these 14 children and give them to responsible couples who have jobs and the love and clean homes to raise them. This girl is the Poster Child for Unfit Mothers.

Nancy said...I completely agree. I feel really sorry for the children but I would not give her a penny. She did this on purpose, let her pay the consequences. That doctor should have his license revoked.

singlemomof 2 said...It was hard enough being single a mom of 2. Yes they had a father who would't pay support but he got on with his life and had 8 more children. But I did not get finanical help from state & this is wrong to think others can help support her. I worked hard to support my 2, yes I had the help of my parents (a roof over our heads)but I also helped them around the house & with bills. God forbid something happens to this mother for poor babies will be separated for no one person will be able to care for all 14 children.

Courtney Morgan said...This sort of thing outrages me. Where is the CPS (Child Protection Services) in this case? This woman is obviously not fit to raise this many children on her own, and yet there is no mention of a caseworker being involved. This just goes to show that the "famous" people can get away with anything.
My sister had CPS called on her by a bitter ex-boyfriend and they had to do this huge investigation. She has a steady good paying job for like 6 years, renting-to-own a home of her own, and is doing all she can to collect child support from the loser deadbeat father. Not once has she ever asked anybody to help pay for raising her child, yet she gets her life turned upside down for 6 months while they investigate to make sure she's ok to raise her daughter.
Where is the justice in that? I agree with what somebody else said, these children should be given up for adoption. There are so many women who CAN'T get pregnant that could afford to raise a child the way he/she deserves. This woman will never be able to give her children what they need. Unless of course the rest of us have to pay for it.

Jan said...I agree that no one should give her any money, she created the situation, let her pay for it. I think the doctor that implanted all those babies should support them. Especially that he knew she already had 6 children under 7 years old at home. I also feel that if the state has to support them they should be taken away and put up for adoption.

Joan said...Why isn't the Dr. made to carry some of the financial responsibility? The Dr. is clearly to blame for not guiding this emotionally unbalanced woman. Who is going to care for these innocent babies? The babies didn't ask for this? Society is now facing a responsibility for innocent victims because of 2 irresponsible adults, the Dr. and the mother.

WHO PAID FOR HER IVF? that is what i want to know. I was making $275.00 a week and could not get food stamps cause i owned a car that was 10 years old. how do you run out and have 8 kids after your 6 others when you are on welfare? are there no guidelines in california....she should be cut from welfare immediately and be held responsible for her actions. she was well aware how many children were possible with IVF. i used welfare to help me for a year or two this woman as all career welfarers should be denied help because she blatantly does not give a dam

Steve said...I agree. However, unfortunately, the children had no say in this situation and should not be punished. I'm not sure what the best solution is, but it would seem that perhaps this is a job for California's Children's Services Operations Bureau (CSOB).

DAVID said...I firmly believe that the doctor who set up this mess should lose his license and this woman should have her children taken away from her. She obviously has a lot of mental problems and if we (as a society) don't intervene now there will be another fourteen people either abusing the system or ending up in prison in 18 years.

ES said...How is she any different from the many single women who don't work, have 4 or 5 kids by different men, and receive government assistance. Whether they are conceived by IVF or the old fashioned way, it's the same scenario. Just because you want a large family or just because you're too stupid to use birth control doesn't mean you should have the large family and expect everyone else to pay for it. We should be just as outraged about these people too.

I mean yes she was selfish, and did not needd more kids, but Y is it that we are all so into the show Jon and Kate plus 8, but we think this woman is all about the money and fame, what about them?? Arent we paying for there kids too by watching the show??

Paula said...I agree she should not have had more children. I new she was going to ask the tax payers to pay her way, no one could afford to raise that many children and be single to boot and no job. Putting her parents through all this is so selfish and unfare. No one should be allowed to have that many children by INVF and not work or have the means to support them. That Doctor is a joke. I for one don,t think she should get welfare, she made this choice over and over, now deal with it. Use that education you have and support yourself !!!!
