When this baby-faced, 4-foot tall boy was asked how he plans to provide for the baby financially, he replied, "What's financially?" Asked what he'll do about money, he says "I don't know," and looks away. Diapers cost "a lot," Alfie thinks, but he's not sure how he's going to pay for them. "I don't really get pocket money. My dad sometimes gives me £10."
Clearly, Alfie, Maisie, and her mom, 15-year-old Chantelle Stedman, will need to be supported by their parents. The three are currently living with Chantelle's parents and her five brothers. Her father, Steve, is jobless.
It might just be the adults that got everyone into this situation. "The Stedmans let the kids run wild on the street until all hours, they have no control over them," a neighbor told The Daily Mail. Alfie was often encouraged to stay overnight -- even keeping a school uniform there -- despite the fact that Alfie's mother lives nearby, and despite the fact he was only 12. Who's watching who here?
A lot of parents feel daunted by the responsibilities of parenthood, but for Alfie, ignorance just might be bliss. He seems determined to be the best dad he can be, while being woefully unaware about how his life has changed. "Everyone is telling him things and it's going round in his head," said Alfie's dad, Dennis. "It hasn't really dawned on him. He hasn't got a clue of what the baby means and can't explain how he feels. All he knows is mum and dad will help...They have no idea what lies ahead."
Still, Alfie wanted to be the first to hold the baby, born at 7 lbs 3 oz, and he spent every day at the hospital after Maisie was born. The kid deserves some credit for stepping up and wanting to be a dad, even if he's still a boy.
Dad Dennis says the next thing on the agenda is a "birds and bees" talk between him and Alfie. Seems like too little, too late. Chantelle reportedly became pregnant after one night of unprotected sex; Alfie was 12 at the time.
Tell us what you think about Alfie becoming a father at age 13.

Ladie A. Rossier said...I think the boy and the girl are looking for someone to love. It is sad and frustrating to hear about such young teenagers becoming parents. The fact that neither one of them has any idea how challenging parenting will be for them troubles me as a parent, and I worry for the innocent baby they brought into this world. The parents of the teens will be responsible for the baby until the teens are legally an adult, after that, they will be on their own to care for the child in that respect. I am not sure about how the teens parents were with them, and it is NOT for me to judge. I do know that many times no matter how much we as parents, guide our children in the right direction or what we constantly tell them...when decision time comes (will they have unprotected sex or protected sex or reframe from sex) the decision remains with the child. The only thing we as parents can do is hope our years of teaching has paid off. I will certainly pray for not only the young parents, and the parents of the two teenagers, but for the newborn baby as well.

It's the 'breeder' mentality that children have much too long been taught and socialized diminishing the worth if every human being. He's now an official slave like all the others who insist on 'playing house' and exposing their delicate egos mired in object total poverty! Welcome, boy...to your new 'trailer-trash' culture....you've earned it....now wallow in it....you're life is over!

Rob Wimsatt said...A very sad commentary on society in general. As if life isn't difficult enough already we have children having children. A 13 and a 15 yr old girl and boy have absolutely no clue about being parents and furthermore they shouldn't. The kids parents/grandparents are the responsible parites and therefore should be held accountable for the child and its financial needs. Adoption might actually be the best option so the child has some chance at a good life. Obviously it has no chance whatsoever in that household.. just look at Alfie.

It is not the kids fault, it is the parents who don't set limits and don't know how to say no to their kids, who need guidance and rules.

She doesn't support any of them and my friend lives with her grandma. This just goes to show that having kids when your young can mess up your life and your priorities. I think it's 99.9 percent the boys fault. It was his choice to do what he did. His parents had NO CONTROL of his actions whatsoever. They can't be with him 24/7. That doesn't make them bad parents. It just means that they don't have time to be looking after him all day every day. By the age of 13 he should be able to take care of himself and make his own decisions. This all just goes to show how bad the world is getting. I'm happy that they have their baby but it shouldn't be brought up using their parents money. In my opinion, I think the mother should've had an abortion. But now that she's already had it, I think she should put it up for adoption. I think it'll have a better life in a foster home than being brought up by young kids.

I was a father at age 12 and it wasn't because of poor parenting or poverty. I attended private school, my mom was a nurse and dad an insurance broker. My child is 30 years old now, has her masters degree and has a great job. There are people out there raised by both parents and hasn't faired better than my baby.
You all can judge all you want, just expose your ignorance and shallow existence. All the hateful things you say and do doesn't help, you're part of the problem.
If it wasn't because of poor parenting or poverty then what was it from? You failed to mention what it was from. Was is sheer stupidity?

Patsy said...Well, when you start thinking God in school and the teaching of abstinence is ridiculous --- these are the types of outcomes you will get. I would give the child up for adoption if they really love the baby. You will bless a couple who is not able to have a baby and the baby will be in better hands. I commend you for not having an abortion but think about the baby's welfare and think about others who have such a huge desire to have a baby, who can afford having one and who can give them a wonderful home. You will all come out winning.

Cat said...I don't find a young boy having a child at 13 surprising.
The majority of the population of the world consists of immoral, selfish, disgusting pigs.
Obviously, mommy and daddy are two of them. Additionally, we can't always lay blame on the parents.
I'm sure he knew the consequences of unprotected sex.
And if one claims "Oh he's only 13" I promise you I can walk up to any six year old and they will tell me where babies actually come from.
Please, people. We all are part of the reason this happened: we are humans, and are regressing back to our animalistic instincts.
Kind of sad, actually.
