And although Suleman says she doesn't give a hoot about Jolie ("I have never thought of Angelina Jolie except the last time I saw one of her movies. I think that was years ago. It is so far away from the place I'm in right now, to think of any celebrity"), friends and family of Suleman say the mother of 14 secretly envies the Oscar winner.

The Southern California woman who gave birth to octuplets on Jan. 26 had the embryos implanted at a Beverly Hills clinic run by a controversial doctor, it was revealed Monday. Here, Dr. Michael Kamrava is shown performing an ultrasound on a pregnant Nadya Suleman in 2006. In addition to the octuplets, Suleman has six other children, ages 2 to 7.

Suleman is shown with two of her children in 2006. The single mom told NBC's 'Today' show that she was "fixated" on having children. She said all 14 of her children were conceived through in vitro fertilization with sperm donated by a friend. She said she used the same doctor for all her pregnancies.

Suleman looks at an ultrasound of her unborn twins in 2006. She told NBC that she is not "living off the taxpayers," but she has accepted food stamps. RadarOnline.com reported that she is living in a hotel room, although it's not clear who is paying for the room.

NBC's 'Today' broadcast footage Monday of Suleman visiting her octuplets in the California hospital where they were born Jan. 26. There are six boys and two girls.

Suleman did not disclose the name of her doctor, but she said on 'Today' that she went to the West Coast IVF Clinic in Beverly Hills. Its director is Kamrava, shown being followed by reporters Monday. Kamrava, 57, would not comment, but told reporters outside his clinic on Rodeo Drive that he had granted an interview to one of the television networks.

Kamrava enters his office Monday. Some fertility specialists have questioned his methods. "He's tried some novel techniques and some of those methods have been controversial," said Dr. John Jain, founder of Santa Monica Fertility Specialists. Ethicists have questioned the decision to implant so many embryos in Suleman, saying the health of both the mother and babies were at risk.

Without identifying the doctor, the Medical Board of California said last week that it was investigating Suleman's physician to see whether there may have been "a violation of the standard of care." The board said Monday it has not taken any disciplinary action against Kamrava in the past.

This is the building where Kamrava's clinic is located. Many have questioned why a doctor would help a single woman with six young children and no visible means of support to conceive more babies.

What's more, a source close to Jolie (mother of six) says it's not just reading about Suleman in the media that triggers her irritation. Apparently Suleman has reached out to Jolie several times over the past year, sending her fan mail congratulating her on her humanitarian efforts. .
Says the source: ''At least she wasn't a total crazy...like the stalkers who try to actually meet Angelina and follow along with the paparazzi. It is clear this woman needs psychological help. It's one thing to clip out a celebrity's photo from a magazine and ask your [hair] stylist to copy that cut. Who hasn't done that? But to have a nose job, have collagen injections in your lips and start talking like Angelina -- that's over the top.''
Let's go over the similarities between Suleman and Jolie.
•Both are age 33 and famous for being a mom.
•Both wanted to be single mothers.
•Both have strikingly similar features -- Suleman has been accused of having plastic surgery on her lips and nose to resemble the actress.
•Suleman agreed to sit down with Ann Curry for her first interview with the media. Curry has long been Jolie's most consistent interviewer, flying around the world with the star throughout the years.
Sure, I am just speculating but the resemblance is striking. What do you think?

Jasmine said...That woman does not have a right to have 14 children when she has no means of support. For all you people that condone her actions, why don't you send her the money she is expecting the american people to give her. If you are so righteous in your opinion that she has a right to have all those kids..then you do the right thing for her and make her filthy rich....obviously, that was her goal in the first place. I have no intention of sending that leech one red cent. She wanted a big family..let her support that family on her own earnings.

Sarah said...Women on welfare have babies to in their own words "get their life together" and get their free paychecks and benefits, better housing then one paying for themselves, more savings then someone with the same job not on welfare as when they do work, they still get a kick in of money and benefits. The only reason why any man would support it is because he's thinking about if any woman he slept with got pregnant he wouldn't want to support it but would want the state to. In addition, these are the genes being brought into the world....people who have to steal others money to support themselves, not minding flinging their children into a world they could not survive in themselves...it's repulsive. In addition, this is what California gets for the "sex should be free" attitude stemming from the 60's. They can pay for what a husband used to for this propaganda.

VIV said...what a nut job...it makes me wonder why the state of california does not sue her doctor...and stops payments to this crazy woman...if i were still living in cali...i would refuse to pay taxes to help this woman in any sort of way...maybe if the majority of the state would do this she would give up some of those kids.

Good luck to you, Nadia. I'm sure you wish the 8 had been 1, but you seem very warm-hearted and well-intentioned to me. I've written about fertility technology and it's a difficult thing - if one has religious beliefs against destroying embryos, it's impossible to do that, which had been Nadia's alternative.
So instead of being "creeped out," Ang, why not send a care package to the kids and forego adopting baby no. 7 yourself?

I don't agree they should have the right to used these reproductive technologies to have litters of multiples like Suleman did. There should be a law passed to prevent what happened. Its just not the same thing as giving birth naturally.

Beth said...Sorry folks, but we ARE becoming involved, and for three compelling reasons. First, the "best interests of the children" (a legal standard) dictate that the state must become involved in monitoring the living conditions and general welfare of the children. Second, the mother IS accepting public assistance and taxpayers have the right to determine how their money is being spent. Finally, medical professionals and bioethicists must intervene if some industry guideline has been violated with the procedures that were performed. Lest you think I am being overly critical, I'd like to point out that I am an attorney AND the mother of an IVF-conceived 17-year-old son. We should all be focusing on the lives of the innocent children and not their selfish, foolish mother. They cannot fight for themselves, so it is the job of the state to intervene on their behalf.

Granny said...They call people who have 10 or more cats or dogs (pets) hoarders .It's also been said these people are sick. Well this woman is a hoarder of children and just as sick. She needs help and I don't think supporting her is the help she needs. How can she keep having children. It would be one thing if this happened accidently but to have this many on purpose. Knowing you can't afford them is morally wrong. Most people with large families have family support (spouse) .She clearly has none and fully expects the public and government to help.I feel sorry for all her children.

Liz said...I am confused as to how this happened in the first place. Maybe the doctor figured "she can afford it". I doubt he knew she was using disability that was supposed to be paid to her kids to have MORE kids. Disability should make her pay back every dime she stole from her children to have in-vitro. I don't know about laws in CA but in MA... I was on AFDC when I got pregnant with my second child (I was on the pill, accidents happen) and he is considered a CAP baby. That means any child born during a period where the mother is already receiving financial assistance for another child WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED a factor in determining the amount of cash or foodstamps received. When my son's dad left I only got $500 a month for my first child. Nothing for the second. I'm not complaining, that helped greatly at a time when I needed it. But I also went and got my tubes tied because I knew I didn't want anymore children. 2 kids are hard enough to care for these days. I can't imagine the expenses of 14. So, anyway... I'm really wondering how the laws of financial assistance work in CA. Everyone has a right to do what they will with their lives "LIVE AND LET LIVE" but when you financially neglet your children in order to have more children you CAN'T afford IT IS ABUSE. She deffinately needs help.

NJmama said...I usually just read these diatribes and move on to the next idiotic AOL headline, shaking my head. So here's my ranting...
The key DIFFERENCE between Suleman & Jolie is the ability to pay for and support the young lives that are under their care. Jolie can have another dozen kids if she chooses, it's no one's business whether she does or not. As for this woman in California, she has chosen her path and needs to hustle to get her life in order, all the while raising this big family. Suleman only has two arms... so she will need to rely on help, just as Jolie only has two arms and relies on help. The fundamental difference is the ability to take care of your family without being a drain to other people or to society.
If she is on welfare or recieves "support" from California, then it is up to the state to reign in her procreation activities and offer her a way through this. Some people are saying that she's working the system. Whether she intended to or not, this will be a catalyst for change in California (& other states). Rather than cheering for authorities to take away her children, CA needs to cut their losses and update their laws for the next time. This time the score is Suleman 1, Calfornia 0. But now she's got a heavy responsibility on her shoulders - - - to make this all worthwhile and "pay it forward". And I'm sure the world will be watching, ready to pounce if she doesn't.
I am one of 9 children, raised in a family with both parents (working dad, stay at home mom). Even on the best days it was difficult for my parents, especially when we were all younger. My parents never overindulged us, we lived within their means, and we made do with what we had. We didn't have cable tv or high-end clothes, we were always clean and healthy, and we all became productive adults, active in our communities and having children of our own (god forbid). We were no more or less troublesome than the only child around the corner who grew up to murder his wife (true story).
As a mother of 3 (THREE) I can recall complete strangers approaching me in public and saying to me when they were still babies, "So you're done now, right?" when I only had 2 kids. When the 3rd one came along the unnecessary comments came out again ... "so you're done, right?"...
If I were to have 9 children like my mother did I'm sure I'd be considered the local freak, too. Unfortunately, the current media frenzy has everything to do with babies. Next week it will be something else to cause an uproar and all of this will be forgotten. And all of the crazies that feel AOL is their personal soap box for matters that don't and never will affect them, need to focus on their own lives and get off the computer.

jason said...John d......your part of the problem. Leave her alone and let her spend tax money that we are paying to feed her kids that she knew damn well she could not afford? That is seriously what you propose? What if every one lived like that? Tax money is not meant to be used by people that are playing the system like this women is. All that tax money that she is consuming could be going towards helping people that did not intentionally put themselves into a situation and really need the help. Maybe it could go towards something for the community that every one could enjoy. I believe that she now has 14 kids? Well that cost a lot of money to raise 14 kids on the tax payers funds, its not right.
