Think First Daughters Sasha and Malia Obama will be waited on hand and foot in their new digs? Ha.
According to the new issue of PEOPLE, the rules are the same in the White House as they were in their home in Chicago.
Sasha, 10, and Malia, 7, are expected to make their own beds, keep their bedrooms spic-and-span and clean up after dinner. And although their grandmother, Marian Robinson, 71, is living in a third-floor guest room to assist the family, the girls are not allowed to take advantage of Grandma's help.
Michelle Obama has even asked the White House staff not to dote on the girls. "People want to make your life easy, and when you have small kids -- I've explained this to the staff -- they don't need their lives to be easy. They're kids," she says.
However, the girls can roam all around the White House and even hang in the Oval Office whenever they want. "I've tried to encourage them to feel like this whole place is their home," says the First Lady. "We actually had this conversation -- just let us know where you're going."
And if the girls need more tips on life at the historic mansion, they can always rely on former First Twins, Jenna and Barbara Bush, who passed on a few pointers on life in the "magical" kingdom. "Slide down the banister of the solarium, go to T-ball games, have swimming parties..." Or, in Sasha and Malia's case, dust the banisters, wash your play clothes and put away the pool noodles. Kidding.

What we all need to remember is how we got into this mess. Truth be told, the Bush Administration made sure it got worse before Obama took office. He now has to fix the problem and anyone with a stitch of common sense should be able to understand that there is no overnight solution. It took us eight years to get here and just because he can't fix it within the 43 DAYS he's been in office you want to criticize?? This country is allegedly built on values that are meant to give everyone a fair shake. It seems that some of you can't manage to do that for your own President. That's right, I said it - YOUR PRESIDENT! And it's going to be like that for a long while whether you like it or not. This article was about his children. They are doing an EXCELLENT JOB in raising their kids, they only have the white house for so long then they have to go back to watever/wherever living abt a normal life like us all so they should b teaching thier kids these things , it shouldnt change cuz of white house.

Creating jobs still takes money! You give some, you loose some. Heck, I would not want Obamas job. Its like having the nation as your family, screaming kids and all and millions of different wishes and voices. Though you are one person in this nation of millions, are you doing the right thing? Dont litter, pay taxes, advocate..etc.etc . Having to be perfect is not an easy task.
As for Obama's daughters, its going to be this way if we like it or not. I do believe the Obama's can choose to keep the media away as best as they could. They are celeb's in their own right even if they are the daughters and wife of the President. Like someone mentioned above, this can be a start of an example for other people in general.

When Sasha receives her allowance, she is force to give 50% to her sister. We don't want one girl getting more money than the other.
All things should be equal, except the amount of work you do.

I think it is highly commendable that the Obama's are having their children live under the same rules as when they lived in Chicago.

Karen said...I think that the smartest thing the Obama's are doing is making sure their girls are growing up with responsibilities, and the above responsibilities are very doable for their age. As for having their grandmother not doing everything, something tells me she might assist but not do their chores for them. The Obama's are the parents and should have guidelines for the staff in regards to the girls. Sasha and Malia have several people to talk to in regards to how it is to live in the White House when their father was President. Caroline Kennedy, Amy Carter, and Jenna and Barbara Bush. Politics aside, they have been there so they know what it is like.
