Sasha and Malia - New Home, Same Rules
Filed under: Celeb Kids, In The News
According to the new issue of PEOPLE, the rules are the same in the White House as they were in their home in Chicago.
Sasha, 10, and Malia, 7, are expected to make their own beds, keep their bedrooms spic-and-span and clean up after dinner. And although their grandmother, Marian Robinson, 71, is living in a third-floor guest room to assist the family, the girls are not allowed to take advantage of Grandma's help.

Michelle Obama has even asked the White House staff not to dote on the girls. "People want to make your life easy, and when you have small kids -- I've explained this to the staff -- they don't need their lives to be easy. They're kids," she says.
However, the girls can roam all around the White House and even hang in the Oval Office whenever they want. "I've tried to encourage them to feel like this whole place is their home," says the First Lady. "We actually had this conversation -- just let us know where you're going."
And if the girls need more tips on life at the historic mansion, they can always rely on former First Twins, Jenna and Barbara Bush, who passed on a few pointers on life in the "magical" kingdom. "Slide down the banister of the solarium, go to T-ball games, have swimming parties..." Or, in Sasha and Malia's case, dust the banisters, wash your play clothes and put away the pool noodles. Kidding.
What do you think of the Obama's parenting style? Are they setting appropriate boundaries, or are they too tough on those girls?

White House with. And as they grow older maybe they can see that with the privileges they had in the White House, they can see where community involvement with our young people is so important. I don't think younger community invlovement is as strong as it needs to be.

Kaye Cerri said...I feel that the Obamas a setting a great boundry for their daughters. They are human beings, like us, and they are doing their parenting very good. They don't want their girls to be spoiled. I believe that they should clean up after dinner, and straighten out their bedrooms, and make their beds. It gives them a sense of responsibility.

kebkew said...Sofar I have no complaints about the Obamas. They appear down-to-earth intelligent people who have our country's best interests as a priority. Now I'm not crazy about Bush's presidency,, and I do place some blame on him for decisions he made while president. BUT........things weren't so great when he took office either. Why doesn't anyone realize that the problems we are seeing today didn't begin just 8 years ago? Clinton was no prize in the decision-making department (and I am talking presidential matters not personal.....ahem). Bush inherited Clinton blunders and on down the line. One person does not a country screw up people......it takes a few. SHEESH

It took the US people, a long to screw up the country. I don;t think it can be blamed solely on Bush, Look at Wall Street and Car companies, Mortgage companies. Everyone thinks we need big brother on everything. The people messed up the country, Obama just happens to be the President that took office during the peoples mess up. Not he is being asked to fix our mess up

Raise them as normal as you can and live in the White House. Hopefully they won't turn out like that little "twin" hellion of George and Laura's. Drinking at Austin bars, sticking her tongue out from the back seat of her limo (this when she was almost grown) and having an attitude that "I'm all that".
I think the Obama girls are precious. I applaud Barak and Michelle. I wish I could cook some good ole "kids" food for them and some good southern food for the family. Chicken Wings and fries! It is about time we had some "real" folks in the White House!

Jhoe said...Why doesn't obama just stay in D.C.? Has he not heard that we now have television? He flies all over the country to make speaches and then critisizes auto maker execs for flying to D.C. When he leaves D.C., they have to fly his limo in a jet by itself, some of his staff in his jet, and others in other jets, ties up security in other cities!!
What a huge expense on taxpayers.

TOUCHE TO THE COMMENT ABOVE! People can dislike this man based on many things and assuming that it is ALWAYS racially driven is showing your own insecurities and ignorance!
In addition, thinking the Kool Aid comment is racial proves the ignorance theory... Those of you that don't know about JONESTOWN must not know how to read!

Kathleen Vaughan said...Chris Alward, first off, the taxpayers are NOT paying for Michelle' mother -- remember that this lady was gainfully employed for many years and presumably has retirement income. She is there for backup when the Obamas are otherwise engaged. MANY White House families have had extended family, even close friends live at the White House, it's not like they are exactly short on bedrooms. They would rather have their ''granny nanny'' than someone else babysitting for the girls, and they will need that a lot.

Jeremiah said...Now if only BO would take his own duties as seriously as he makes his daughters. But it appears that he is more interested in destroying our economy than in improving it. It's unimaginable that he said "the DOW is just another indicator, and doesn't mean anything to me." It just means that there are hundreds of millions of people whose life savings and retirment accounts are worth less and less every day the market continues to tumble. He needs to shut his mouth about his spendthrift plans and quit talking about different ways he and the democRATS are going to spend our tax dollars. Then maybe things might improve. But he just can't help reading the teleprompter and blah, blah, blahing his socialist ideals.

And by the way, people that thinks that Obama is responsible for this mess, go back in time and see what your adorable failure president Bush did. Stop blaming Obama, just because you don't like him. Have an open mind and try to be positive like the rest of the world is trying to do. People like you, so negative, is making this country to go bakwards instead of forward.

Shauna said...How exactly is Obama "running this country into the ground"? The Bush administration already ran it into the ground. There is so much work to do to fix it. It is going to take a LONG time. I'm sick of people expecting everything to be magically fixed in the less than 2 months that Obama has been in office. It takes awhile for these things people! The Depression lasted for about a decade. We are going to have to give the new administration time to work. And all you bitter people who are still whining about the fact that Obama won the election need to get over it. He is president now and your whining isn't going to change that. So give him the benefit of the doubt and wait and see what his new policies can do for our country. It isn't going to happen over night. It may take his whole term and more to fix the damage that has been done. But, we've been through worse and we are just going to have to ride it out like Americans have done in the past.
