Sasha and Malia - New Home, Same Rules
Filed under: Celeb Kids, In The News
According to the new issue of PEOPLE, the rules are the same in the White House as they were in their home in Chicago.
Sasha, 10, and Malia, 7, are expected to make their own beds, keep their bedrooms spic-and-span and clean up after dinner. And although their grandmother, Marian Robinson, 71, is living in a third-floor guest room to assist the family, the girls are not allowed to take advantage of Grandma's help.

Michelle Obama has even asked the White House staff not to dote on the girls. "People want to make your life easy, and when you have small kids -- I've explained this to the staff -- they don't need their lives to be easy. They're kids," she says.
However, the girls can roam all around the White House and even hang in the Oval Office whenever they want. "I've tried to encourage them to feel like this whole place is their home," says the First Lady. "We actually had this conversation -- just let us know where you're going."
And if the girls need more tips on life at the historic mansion, they can always rely on former First Twins, Jenna and Barbara Bush, who passed on a few pointers on life in the "magical" kingdom. "Slide down the banister of the solarium, go to T-ball games, have swimming parties..." Or, in Sasha and Malia's case, dust the banisters, wash your play clothes and put away the pool noodles. Kidding.
What do you think of the Obama's parenting style? Are they setting appropriate boundaries, or are they too tough on those girls?

You gotta give Obama a chance its gonna take time for him to turn this country around it took Bush 8 years to f*ck it up its gonna take Obama some time everyone is fast to judge him he's only been in office for over a month.

We threw off all that in our revolution and I hate to see how people and media crawl to the feet of these ordinary people who eat and fart like anypig or donkey for that matter.

As far as i am concerned, the parents are just doing exactly what a loving parent ought to be doing.

You sound as if you voted for "W" so grin and bear the eight year mess that he left for President Obama and do your part to help!

The fact that the Prez and Mrs O are trying to make the White House more homey--i.e. the swing set, letting the girls go anywhere they desire, bravo. Remember what you are seeing, you are seeing a successful FAMILY. Take the Politician out of the picture, this is a family. White, black, yellow, brown, red, blue, green, I don't care we all could be better parents and make better families.
I know the Bushies were older, but no one told their parents how to raise them, so let's live the O's alone.

Now lets count Democrats and Republicans sitting on each. Now who really makes the changes in the United State, The President?. NOT. I see our new president just taking the word of a bunch of ignorant party holders. Has he even sat down and thought for himself through any of this. I don't think so. Did Bush cause the recession? I don't think so. Who did you vote for when it came to your own state representitives? Do you even remember?????Probably not. Many of you don't even think about it. Maybe its time you did. Oh, and lets start being American's. You may not like all the decissions that the government makes, but is it not for the better of our countries face to show support and unity? Maybe you will call me crazy, but I'm worried, and I pray we Americans come together and fight together as one team so we as a team can win this challenge.
Ok, go for it, rip me apart..........

Why would you get a $4000 mortgage knowing that your monthly income is only $4500. Now because of the mortgage crisis everything has to go up because banks are failing. If you want to blame somebody, blmae the loan officers that are pushing $300,000 homes on people barely making $35,000 yearly. Anybody can say that its the Presidents fault but think about if you can afford your home if you lose your job!

Clinton was a smart guy, too, but seemed to lack common sense...esp. in his, uh, personal life. Obama needs to think big and think practical at the same time, then inspire Americans to do the same. I think he can do it. Totally agree though about overspending + predatory lending = disaster. Everyone's to blame, so everyone has to help fix it. We need to grow up.

Don't give me this crap it's Bush's fault, no way, this started when those dumbcrats took over in 06. I'm retired living on a fixed income, the way he's governing he doesn't want anyone living on S.S. so he can spend it on his people.....I'm sick of him and his policies...................Vote for Sarah Palin in 012.

As for the girls, they are delightful, seem to have an intrinsic style sense like their mother, and of course they should do a few chores. I certainly agree with the person above who said, 'How many girls know how to sew anymore, how many boys know how to fix anything around the house? Boys and girls should know how to do a lot of things - education isn't just in school. Parents have a responsibility to insist that their children learn how to care for themselves and others, and doing chores is where is begins. By the time these girls are in their mid-late teens their father will be out of the White House (yes, assuming 8 years), and they'll be on to their own lives. Well prepared, I believe, by their parents.

This in itself is a testiment to brain thrust or lack of that has caused this country be in the shape that it is in currently. We talk so much about how great we are and yet we can'y see for looking and finding fault in all the wrong places. The fact is we have growned as a country and as a people inspite of the haters and do nothiners. So to those haters and lifeless do notherners I say take a true inventory of youself and if you find that there is room in your world to grow in the positive......seek that path.

First, he has only been in office for a month and a half and he has got his hands full after how badly Bush screwed up our country. I'd like to see all of you guys who are complaining try to fix all the damage thats been done already. Give him a break, HE'S ONLY ONE PERSON. Second, this goes to Chris Alward- the girls did not ask to live in the white house. You are assuming that they are rich snobby people and you are wrong. Give some credit to Barack and Michelle, they are juggling a family and the fate of the US in their hands. I'd like to see you do better. applaud their choice to give the girls responsibility and everyone else should, too.

He knows exactly what his chores are and he does them as soon as he comes home from school. We understand that there are some things that he really can't do, but we gve him chores that he is capable of doing. I think it's great that the Obama's are treating their children like normal kids.
