Levi Johnston Says Sarah Palin Knew Bristol Was Having Sex

This has my jaw on the floor: Levi Johnston, Bristol Palin's baby daddy and former fiancé, says that he and Bristol were allowed to share a bed in the Palin house when they were dating -- and, he says, he thinks that Governor Sarah Palin knew that the couple were having sex.
"I'm pretty sure she probably knew," Johnston told Tyra Banks in an interview that airs Monday. "Moms are pretty smart." Johnston also told Banks that he and Bristol Palin practiced safe sex "most of the time."
Which is different, of course, from practicing abstinence all of the time.
I'm having a hard time reconciling all the pieces here. Governor Palin is a vocal advocate of abstinence-only sex education, but she let her teen age daughter share a room with her boyfriend. And while we only have Johnston's word that the Governor knew the kids were having sex, I would have to say that he's probably right -- moms are smart, especially moms of girls, especially about stuff like this. In fact, when smart moms want our kids to be abstinent, we do things like, oh, I don't know, say no when a boyfriend wants to sleep over and share a bed with our daughter.
But that's not all.
I also find myself wondering why on earth Levi Johnston thought it was a good idea to spill the beans about this whole sleepover thing on "The Tyra Banks Show" -- does he think this will win Bristol back, or make her family like him more? He told "Good Morning America" that he and Bristol called off their engagement because "it's just us not, me not being mature enough, or something, and having a kid." I agree -- he's not mature enough to be making decisions about sex, clearly. And also possibly about what to say to the media.
I feel for Bristol and Levi; they've got a hard road ahead of them, both as young parents and as media magnets, and clearly they haven't been getting very good guidance from the adults in their lives. It's our job as parents to help our teens mature into responsible people, and sometimes that means saying no -- to sex and to interviews.

Karen said...I think the boy is lying. If she knew they were having sex she would have gotten Bristol on birth control pills, Depo shots, etc. She would not have wanted her to have unprotected sex. I know several young girls who have gotten pregnant because they went behind their parents backs and aganist their family's values and had sex anyway and ended up pregnant. Most had their babies but some chose to kill their babies, which is really sad. It is wrong to blame the parents because teenagers are going to do as they please and the parents have to earn a living so they can't be watched 24/7 like a younger child can be. Blaming Palin for Bristol's pregnancy is like blaming a parent for their child's drug or alcohol problem, no parent wants anything detrimental to happen to their teen, but sometimes things happen beyond the parents control.

He is either vindictive or enjoying the limelight and I don't think for one minute Sarah Palin knew a thing about what the two of them were up to. As the father of a 18 year old daughter that has a mind of her own and is head strong as they come, I can assure you her mother and I hope and pray she would not have sex before the time is right. She came home with nose piercing on the that can be hidden inside her nose and a belly button piercing and we are both stauchly opposed to piercing and tatoos. We only found out when one of her friends let the cat out of the bag, after the fact. She also informs us she is 18 and can do as she pleases. However, all we can do is hope we taught her right from wrong and she can control herself as far as sex goes. The idea that a mother knows is BS. There were things my brother and two sisters and I did as children and teenagers that my mother still knows knothing about.

Are we sooo accustomed to 14 year olds having babies that Bristol having a baby out of wedlock is cool or in any way acceptable? There are no accidents. Any adlosecent who has sex without protection does not get the luxjury of explaining away the act as though it were an accident. Having sex without one of the now 12 methods of birth control is an intentional act. If they want to act like adults.. now they are going to be adults... Pitty the poor baby being raised in this confusion and it's future.... Just think,... we sure missed bringing all this disfunction into the White House... We could have had lamaz classes in the Oval Office...

Bristol Palin isn't the first and she won't be the last to have a baby while single and young. Bristol and Levi made the choice of having sex and not being married. """"The parents didn't have any choice!""""" I watched a LIVE interview on The Greta Van Sustran Show and Bristol told how sick she became and even her best friend had to tell Bristol's Parents! Levi was present in the Palin's home when the best of Bristol's told the Palins.

The link from AOL's main page said the same thing.
But then we see the opening paragraph says "he thinks that Governor Sarah Palin knew that the couple were having sex"

Then it quotes this young man as saying "I'm pretty sure she probably knew".

Now look back at the headline.
