Students Watch Porn In Class By Accident

This just goes to show that sometimes too much technology in the classroom can be a bad idea.A substitute teacher at a Denver high school got quite a shock when he went to play a movie his class was scheduled to watch.
According to news reports, the sub was looking for the video when he found an unmarked DVD in the regular teacher's laptop. Unfortunately, what popped up was more Sex Ed than Geography. Yup, after hitting play a raunchy porn appeared on the computer screen. Luckily, the teacher was able to quickly shut it off and film wasn't projected overhead for the entire class to see.
East High School Principal John Youngquist sent a letter to parents assuring them that "The movie was on the computer screen for just a few seconds." The Principal also said that "Approximately six students [out of a class of 23] may have seen the computer screen while the porn film was playing."
Of course, even the few seconds of the skin flick was enough to send the freshman and sophomores into shock -- well, at least briefly before they broke out in a fit of laughter.

Fizzygrrl said...Meh, it was unintentional, and not like they made them sit and watch the whole thing, so if my daughter was in class I wouldn't slip out.
I would however be hoping the teacher who brought it to school got a good talking to about letting it on campus. I am sure it was a mistake, but that isn't really appropriate.

Amanda said...I agree that the teacher who brought it to school should be talked to. It is completely inappropiate. But as the previous poster said, it was unintentional. Life happens. I'm positive the students are not going to marked the rest of their life.

Lynn said...This is absolutely ridiculous. How can a teenager be "harmed" by viewing a porn video? This puritan attitude of criminalizing sex is harmful to teenagers and the citizens of this country. Of course there are appropriate venues for sex/porn, but the fact the school had to jump through hoops in hopes one of the parents wouldn't "sue them" over this, shows how immature and unidealistic this country has become.
Sex is a natural and healthy way for humans to express themselves, relieve tension, enjoy touch/closeness, etc. The only difference between sex & porn is the paid acting which is no different than any other movie/TV show who pays/makes $$$ by producing a product. Explaining the difference between real sex & porn to teenagers who are bombarded by it in today's 24/7 media streams, would be a far better approach than trying to protect them from the truth. I give this school and our country an "F".

kate said...I also agree. I am only 26 and i remember when I was in high school how we kids were much more knowlegable about such things then parents and teachers wanted to admit or believe. I think its pretty sad that so much had to be done for an honest mistake.
I have kids and granted there is a proper time and place for eveything and school is definetly not the place for viewing porn. but as long as the kids know the differense between what was real and what isn't there shouldnt be more then an apology warrented. enough said.

Kids will talk and it would have quickly gotten around the school and he would have been in more trouble than the teacher who brought it to the school in the first place, if he hadn't of said anything. And yes, things happen, but that was a school. The teacher who brought such material as that to school should immediately be FIRED! I don't want some porno freak who can't even wait til he is in the privacy of his home sitting at the school house with kids all day. No telling what he's dreaming about. Morals go along way and he had none.

If the permant teacher couldn't control theirself enough to keep the porn at home then I am not so sure I would trust that teacher to control theirself around my children! Would you want your teacher to be watching porn then ask you to stay after class and talk with you one on one? Yuck!
