Burger King Ad Inappropriate for Kids?
The ad is actually pushing a new Sponge Bob kid's meal, but some parents aren't buying it. "It was funny at first, but it is a little graphic for kids," says Kassandra Jackson, a mom in Boise, Idaho.
I've watched it several times now and the only thing I can find to complain about is the fact that the King is rapping about squares when the shapes are actually rectangles. Other than that, I think I am too confused to be offended.

a disgusted Christian American said...Wow! Shocking, yet another piece of trash trying to sell us food.
We need to boycott ALL of these disgusting companies!
Still has a way to go to be as disgusting as the NASTY, Vulgar, Disgusting, Sexist piece or filfth that Hardee's has out with the half naked girl hanging out of what there is of her dress. What is America coming to. If this is the "CHANGE" in America we DO NOT need it. We need to get back to GOD. He is our only saving grace. God helps us all!

Etta said...Hardee's has some of the worst commercials, plain nasty. Whoever approves these ads needs to be fired. Ad execs seem to think that each commercial needs sexual innuendoes to sell. If they provided decent food, they would not have to resort to commercials anyway. It is not just Hardee's or BK, it is with 90 percent of ads, like the one who tells the girl to "take your top off". Whenever these ads come on, I hit mute or turn the channel. Nothing but trash on regular tv anymore, shows or ads. I never buy from Hardee's or BK anyway, and you can forget McDonald's.

Brenna said...Right on to a disgusted Christian,
The BK ad is freaky, creepy and doesn't need to be on television. The Hardee's commercial is even worse. I saw it for the first time last night. I was shocked at the content. These ads should be pulled immediately. I hope that everyone will make their voices heard on this. We all have a right to be heard, and this stuff is just trashy. God help those people who come up with this terrible trash.

S Kidd said...I, too, think this has WAY too much suggestive sexual content. Nothing more to say other than this is a VERY stupid add. Kifds ALREADY have nudity and sexual videos by the THOUSANDS shoved in their faces. Look at women on the beach who wear g-strings in bathing suts that have less fabric than a pair of gloves!!!
THIS encourages them to act it out.

granddad said...I think that the "King" is just a terrible creepy figure anyway. What does the symbol of Burger King have to do with girls shaking their "booty" and hamburgers? There is also a subtle connotation here too, some of the girls are in uniforms that give a suggestion that they are "schoolgirls" and then the perv looking King is there around them. The entire commercial is pretty goofy.

Tracy said...I will not let my kids eat at burgar king and after seeing this commerical I know why I am so sick and tired of tv commericals entertaining sex to our children what happen to the good old days when you could sit down and watch TV without watching someone ingaging in sex and then watching a commerical about big butts and now I will highly considered not letting my children watch sponge bob anymore because they have associated themselfs with this disgracful and not tastful commerical our kids are watching this stuff and we wonder why so many of our children are getting preganant at young ages. We monitor what we let our children watch on TV but you just can't be in the room all the time so I say we need to get back to good clean TV.

Jamie said...My son watches Cartoon Network religiously and I have never seen this commercial aired in the early afternoon. I am guessing they only show it to the big kids and adults. I can see my 10 year old niece laughing her head off. My 5 year old would not get it even if he did see it. Maybe this is geared toward adults who are forced to watch Spongebob with their children! This may not be a kids ad. A kid would not get it. You have to pay attention to when it was aired and what shows were on at the time before you start judging the add for content and children. Personally, I think the ad is really dumb. But I think most of the commercials out there are really bad. I like to check out DVD sets from the library so we can skip the commercials. Or I watch my TV shows on the computer using DSL.

Jamie said...Seriously, I have to ask.. Commenter, are you an adult? Most adults I know monitor content for their children. My Husband likes football and that is something we sometimes watch with our children. Normally that is something we watch after the kids are in bed. They don't need to watch that much TV and we would rather spend our time play games or reading books. Also, DUH is a word used by 12 year olds. Do you have maturity issues or do you think you are so smart that you know my kid without meeting him? I KNOW my child would not get it. He has not been exposed to it! He would be so focused on the fact that the ladies had square buts that he would not hear any of the lyrics. He would be too busy laughing and commenting on the butts. "Did you see that..." "They have square butts..." Seriously, pull your pants out of your ahem. Do you burn and ban books too?

SICK-N-TIRED said...Well, Kiddies. It's a New World out there. Unfortunately Rap music is playing a HUGE part in why your kids are exposed to things at a younger age, than you were. Don't blame Burger King. They only see how many parents allow these kids to buy Rap CD's from these RECORD COMPANIES, and want a little piece of the action. Have any of you parents ever sat down, and listened to some of the latest Rap songs your kids listen to? It makes Baby's got Back look like Mozart. The funny thing is, everyone waited too long to do anything about it, and it's too late. You can stop them from buying the CD's, but the friends will have it, and the same songs are played on the radio all day. The kids still know what's being said, with the swear words bleeped out. "Get low, put your a*s on the floor", "Get the money, girl"...you get the picture. Another funny statistic is that the largest increase in prostitution in the U.S. right now, are white suburban girls selling themselves at the mall, to buy things at the Mall. I remember when Rap music wasn't allowed on Mtv, because it was meant to be a rock station....Now it's almost ALL Rap music, and the only rock bands are nerdy ones. Multiply that, times the 6 Mtv stations they have, all being piped right into your house, corrupting your childrens minds, and you can spell DISASTER. Without morals, your kids won't know how to raise kids, and things will spiral out of control. You can see it already. WAKE UP PEOPLE. If everyone has a Ghetto mentality, this whole country will be one big Ghetto.

Queball1031 said...SICK-N-TIRED, you like so many others in this forum need to wise up. I love rap/hip hop grew up on it. Went through a public school system, a prestigous University, and now have a wonderful career, listening to rap music. I don't like country music, but I'm game to listen to any song before I say I don't like it. That's any genre. Where do you think the history of the rock star came from? Surely wasn't rap music, but they are worst. See the problem is that the world is full of judgemental individuals who think; if I don't understand it then it must be wrong! Get a clue, rap was created as a mean to express inner city or urban culture, a way to let voices that are normally ignored be heard. It wasn't until corporate america got their hands on it and influenced it with money that we have rap in its current form. None of the early rap artist had money to brag about, or women to disrespect, corporate america said it was ok to do this. Here is a solution for all you parents that blame rap music for today's society. First, find out if YOUR kids even have an interest in the music. Second, find out why they have this interest. Third, take a vested interest in YOUR kids interests do your research and give YOUR kids an educated pros and cons talk on the issue so they can be informed.

Peg said...I watched this commercial last night for the first time and I was shocked. The commercial is selling Burger King's kid's meal, and yet the whole theme of it is about ass. Who in the Burger King corporation thinks that ass and children should go together? If it was NOT directed at Children, then the commercial could possibly be considered funny or entertaining, but since it is directed at children, then the whole thing is just plain wrong, and they should stop airing it immediately.
