Dad Forces Kid to Get Tattoo

Even if you are a big fan of body art, you would probably agree that tattoos are inappropriate for children. Unless you are Enrique Gonzalez, that is. The 26-year-old Fresno, California man thinks permanent ink on children is A-OK.
No, he didn't allow his 7-year-old son to get a tattoo - he forced him to by holding him down while another man inked the boy with a dog paw on his belly.
If you think a dog paw tattoo sounds kind of cute for a little kid, think again. It's actually a well-known symbol for Fresno's largest street gang, the Bulldogs.
When the tattoo was discovered by the boy's mother, she called police. The tattoo artist has been arrested but dad is missing in action. They both face charges that include mayhem, child abuse, false imprisonment, battery, participating in a criminal street gang and committing a crime for the benefit of a gang.
So, does Gonzalez win the bad parent of the year award? Or is there someone worse out there? Check out these other nominees and see how he compares.

Jamie said...This story is a terrible one. There are those out there trying very hard to win the "worst parent of the year" award. My Brother-In-Law is one of them. He has started a new family (while still married) and has already stopped spending time with or talking to my niece (his 10 year old daughter). He has moved into the home of the girlfriend and taken his new family to Hawaii. He had never taken my niece and sister on vacation ever. There are all kinds out there.

Rob O. said...Certainly, this is terrible and I'd never condone this sort of thing! In fact, I believe this smacks highly of child abuse!
However, just how much worse is this than piercing a baby girl's ears? Our friends look at us like we're some kind of Amish throwbacks or freakish, green-skinned alien creatures when my wife & I (gently) advocate that they NOT get their babies' ears pierced. These are (for the most part) permanent body modifications that should be an individual's choice, not his or her parent's.
Of course, I sorta lump circumcision into that same category... It's unnecessary cosmetic surgery prompted most often by parental vanity and/or desire for conformity.

Kimberly Quinn said...They are night and day. First of all this man and I use the term only because of ginder is a known gang member, he was on parole when he did this. The tattoo he had forseably placed on his son's side was a gang emblem. It was done by a friend who is also a gang member in his home. There was no sanitation of equipment. Therefor the boy was put in danger of hepititis and aids. The father held him down while the boy begged him not to do it. The father was trying to bring this little boy into the the gang.
While I would not have my babies ears pierced it is done in a sanitary manor, with single use needles. If properly cared for there is little danger of infection. It is also no more painful than a vaccine. As for circumcision, that is performed for medical reasons, including the prevention of testicular cancer and infection prevention. It is done in a completely sterile environment, with the area itself numbed. I do not see it as a necessity these days but some do, and I have assisted the doctor in performing them. It is not mutilation, but an in office surgical procedure.
