Obama Puppy Gets His Own Beanie Baby

First Dog Bo is too happy living his life as a pampered family pet to realize how famous he is. Famous enough, in fact, to earn his own place in Beanie Baby history. Ty, Inc. released a stuffed version of the pup, a Portuguese Water Dog. And while Bo may be tearing up the White House, his likeness is flying off the shelves.

Just days after the inauguration, the makers of Beanie Babies introduced "Sweet Sasha" and "Marvelous Malia." Now they're valued at over $3,000 for the pair.

The Obama girls were easy, breezy and totally adorable on their father's inauguration day. Malia, 10, wore a double-breasted periwinkle-blue coat with a blue-ribbon tied in a bow at the waist. Seven-year-old Sasha wore a matching outfit in pinks and corals; both coats were from Crewcuts by J. Crew.

"We are very proud of the First Family and wanted to join in celebrating their choice of a family pet," a Ty Warner spokesman said in a statement. Ty -- who says some proceeds from the Bo Beanie will go help animal shelters - is smart to play nice. Shortly after the inauguration in January, the company released a set of TyGirlz dolls named after Malia and Sasha. First Lady Michelle Obama quickly drew a line in the sand, scolding the company for capitalizing on her daughters' names. Ty retired the names, but not the dolls who are now called Mariah and Sydney.

Michelle Obama isn't likely to complain about the Bo Beanie Baby. In fact, she might even want to pick up a couple for Sasha and Malia. But even the First Lady might have trouble tracking one down. Stores are reporting they're selling out of the stuffed pup, and Beanie Bo is going for $5 to $140.00 on eBay.
