Sarah Jessica Parker's Surrogate Hounded by the Press

Sarah Jessica Parker and her husband Matthew Broderick announced last month that they're expecting twins via a surrogate. And while the family, which includes son James Wilkie, 6, is thrilled about their expanding family, Parker says she's dismayed at how her surrogate has been treated by the press.

"I am incredibly outraged by the sort of extraordinary and unprecedented invasion of her privacy," Parker tells Access Hollywood. "The most unsavory things have been done. She's had her phone hacked, her personal computer information hacked, she's had threats against her and true harassment...She's had friends threatened and family threatened and she's had family of friends threatened."

Parker says that worry over the health and safety of her babies and the woman who is carrying them keeps her up at night. "She is [healthy] today, but she's had a bad week in the very recent past....You understand what stress, worry and fear and being scared can do," Parker says. "She's quite far along in this pregnancy, and she's carrying two children....There's simply no excuse for doing this to somebody. It's not acceptable."

"Obviously there are those that don't care about her, or her health, or safety, or my children's health and safety, and that they should go to term and not go into an early labor and, god forbid, suffer all the things that can happen -- that is a real possibly," Parker adds.

The "this" that Parker is referring to is "Star" magazine's April 28th "expose" on the surrogate. "SJP's Surrogate Revealed! The Troubled Life of the Woman Having Her Twins," their headlined screamed. But despite their attempts to smear the woman -- most of their information came from her ex-husband -- Parker says she's more than comfortable than the woman who is carrying her babies.

"I'm beyond comfortable with who she is," says Parker. "We haven't been reckless, we haven't been cavalier. She hasn't been reckless.... Every single allegation that I know has been suggested about her is absolutely slander, and libel."

It can't be easy to be a surrogate to the stars, but Parker says she's doing everything she can to legally protect the woman. The babies are rumored to be due in July, and Parker says that when she and Broderick found out they were expecting twins after a long struggle with infertility, there were "giggles."

What do you think about the paparazzi's actions? Is the surrogate's past -- checkered or otherwise -- really newsworthy?
