Michael Jackson's Mother Gets Custody of His Children

In the onslaught of news about Michael Jackson's death, this announcement would seem like a mere detail: On Monday, Jackson's 79-year-old mother, Katherine, was granted temporary guardianship of his children. For most families, the idea that a grandparent would step in and take charge in a crisis is a given, but for the Jackson clan, it's not that simple.
Jackson was raising his children alone. His ex-wife, Debbie Rowe, who is the mother of Prince Michael, 12, and Paris, 11, surrendered her parental rights in the couple's divorce, while Jackson's youngest son, Prince Michael II, or "Blanket," was born to an anonymous surrogate. But in the last week, all sorts of rumors have been swirling around about who wants the kids and what their legal rights may be. Debbie Rowe reportedly told a British tabloid that she had no desire to seek custody, but her representatives are now saying that the interview never happened. Rowe also reportedly claimed that Jackson is not her children's biological father, although it's unclear how true that claim is either. But it does raise questions about the paternity of all three children, and about the best options for permanent custody.
In the face of ongoing chaos it makes sense that the children would go to live with their grandmother. Court documents fiiled by Katherine Jackson assert that the children "have a long established relationship with [their] paternal grandmother and are comfortable in her care." During his 2005 trial for child molestation, Joe and Katherine Jackson told Barbara Walters they would pursue adoption of the children if Michael lost custody.
Jackson is reported to have a good relationship with his mother, but his relationship with Joe Jackson was far more complicated. The singer and his siblings had accused Joe Jackson of abusing them as children, and Joe himself admitted to cheating on his wife and fathering a daughter out of wedlock. Katherine and Joe Jackson are still married but have not lived together since the 1980s, and only Katherine has been granted custody of her grandchildren. Joe, however, has resumed his role as spokesperson for the family, telling the press this week, "This is where they belong ... we love those kids ... we're going to take care of them." But is that what Michael would have wanted?

And then there is the odd life that Prince, Paris and Blanket lived with their father. Joe Jackson told the media this week that his grandchildren were doing well and were spending time with various cousins -- apparently a new thing for the children. "They was never around other kids but they are happy," Joe told the media. He also said that he and Katherine would "give them the education they are supposed to have." We wonder what other normal kid things the Jacksons were missing during their father's lifetime.
So is this the best possible custody arrangement? It is both impossible to know and impossible not to speculate. Prince, Paris and Blanket lived an unusual life with their father, certainly, but it was a life that was familiar to them. Jackson reportedly spend nearly every waking minute with his children, and his absence must be devastating to them now. To have some sort of stability in the midst of that, with an adult that they are familiar with and who appears to love them deeply and sincerely, is certainly a good thing.
At the same time, though, Katherine Jackson was a part of that dysfunctional family where her husband abused their children. Are his children are really best off in the same place where he grew up?
Of course, if Katherine Jackson is not awarded custody of the children, who will be? What other adult is there in their lives? Insiders have said that Jackson would have wanted his children to live with former nanny Grace Rwaramba -- but Rwaramba was fired in December of 2008, and so far no legal document has come to light that would give her any rights to the children. Rwaramba recently talked with the Times of London about Jackson's drug use, claiming that she had had to pump his stomach on more than one occasion. If she had the children's best interest at heart, it is certainly questionable if she should have ran to the media with stories of their father's drug overdoses.
But when you're talking about Michael Jackson -- a man who made a life crafting his celebrity -- it is hard to expect anything different. Unfortunately, Prince, Paris and Blanket are part of that spectacle at the moment. We hope that whoever winds up raising them can help them to find their way in the world, both as Michael Jackson's children and as themselves.

Joe Jackson, "spokesperson" for this mess said, "They was never around other kids but they are happy" and the the kids are going to get an education. OMG...They was never happy? The family photos on CNN last night (the private times @ birthday parties, etc.) showed some pretty happy kids. As for their English...well that's shot to hell now. Maybe they could tell Joe to go to hell in 3 of the other languages they have learned. This is so tragic.

EXACTLY!......................Joe and Katherine Jackson just finished a 24 MILLION $$$ BANKRUPTCY. They are ignorant pariah's who have sucked off the very son they abused.
Joe is either retarded or ignorant and uneducated beyond belief! The way he spoke about the children, whom he doesn't even know is sickening!
MJ kept his children from the Jackson's and their "nieces and nephews" for a REASON!
We need a WISE JUDGE TO INTERVENE and quickly! Get these kids away from the Jackson Family! They are FREAKS and blood suckers and that is why MJ didn't have anything to do with them.

Because his dad is a real piece of crap that's why. I'm not sure anybody in that family could actually raise them so that they don't turn out as screwed up as all the rest of them. Maybe they should be adopted out.

I am already tired of hearing about Michael Jjackson affairs. Everyone shoud be tending to their own business. With the economy down, unemployment, can hardly pay your own bills, etc..and know the blood suckers are circling. The man has not been buried yet. No parent wants to bury their child. I know the story that daddy beat them, hell, there was 9 kids! No one knows why? What is a beating! We have people now that beat their children and kill them. I came from a family of 5 and the whole village/neighbors kept us in line. Michael and his family were secluded. I only wish that when my daddy beat us for a reason that we would be rich for generations, famous and leave a legend that will love him and his family forever. None of you knew Michael, the real one, that hurt, cries, can't go anywhere without creating a frenzy of people pulling on you. He lived in a fishbowl. He became famous because his father knew that his kids could do better. I got a whipping and I am not famous. When I die there will be a handful of my family. The whole world is grieving. Even the ones' that cannot speak english. Wanna trade?

Michael was the greatest pop music entertainer ever; however, privately, he was on the warpath full of revenge and demonic plans.
I have suspicions as to why Michael isolated his children, why he chose not to father any children, and what was his plan to continue his power over authority sickness and criminal behavior after being caught red-handed molesting children. Those children should be physically checked out and very likely need to have counceling. What a mess he has made, laying the groundwork for the corruption of three innocent lives. This is only the beginning of his payback for what his parents did to him.

If he was caught red handed molesting children, then how was he acquitted by a jury? Everyone who really knew Michael Jackson says he would never hurt a child and that he was a good father. You don't know this man at all. Just because he was different does not mean he was a pedophile. People today seem too quick to believe anything that they hear in the media. The man is dead, leave him alone.

where are the news media and tabloids now thst the first accuser of molestation admitted that Michael???? Where are you......where??

Belinda, I think all of you people making comments should tend to your own business. It is obvious that half of you on here are uneducated because you are misspelling everything that you are writing. Don't be a bunch of haters. If you are tired of hearing about MJ then turn you televisions to something else. There is no heaven or hell for any of you to put Michael Jackson through. Only GOD can do that. So it pleases me to tell all of you on here, get over it. How can you judge a man that you do not know. You are a bunch of hipocrites is what you all are. You all better remember, JUDGEMENT DAY is coming and you all will be at the front of the line standing at the gates straight to HELL.

So far we have read quote...that the children are not MJ's or Debbie's...The sperm from MJ's plastic surgery doctor was used along with eggs from another female donor. Debbie just carried the fertilized egg to term for a great deal of money in each case. The marriage was a ruse, meaning that the children are not related to either so called parent! DNA tests must be performed on these children to make sure, because he claimed in a TV interview that he had sex with Debbie and he and Debbie were the biological parents! He also claimed he has had no plastic surgery other than his nose, and has never molested any children, lol. Why didn't he just adopt 3 children? Was there a sinister motive behind all this? Did he in fact molest those three children living with him by keeping them isolated? Did he give them their baths every day? Jacko was whacko- infact he was considered quite mad.

I heard Katherine Jackson talking to her older grandsons on tv the other night and she speaks very well - she sounds like an educated person.
It's sad, he's not here and the media continues to call him 'Jacko Wacko' - no respect.

I completely agree with you! The man was incredibly talented and an amazing performer. The cruel verbiage is and always has been destructive. His children do not deserve to read about that type of garbage. Their father should be honored for his lifelong contribution to music. He was the epitome of the mantra "Believe in Yourself". My only hope is that his mother, Katherine, raises his children away from Joe Jackson. Those children should not experience his kind of love.
I was also disappointed in Jaime Foxx’s rendition of Michael at the BET Music Awards. Michael was so much more than dance moves and a beautiful voice. He had a passion for the dramatic. He will forever be fondly remembered!
