Next Up, A Pole-Dancing Doll

Would you buy your daughter a pole-dancing doll? Credit: Gizmodo.com
If anyone was wondering if the world was doomed, here is your confirmation.
The scoop on this new plaything came from Gizmodo's Jesus Diaz, and features a somewhat grainy photo of a doll in a shiny dress hanging on a pole. A giant heart emblazoned with the word "Pole Dance" is at the top. The box promises "Style." "Interesting." "Music." "Flash." "Up and Down." "Go Round and Round." It might've said "Ewww," "Gross," "Criminal"," but in all likelihood the upstanding manufacturers ran out of room.
No mention is made of inserting money anywhere.
In an email message, Diaz told us today: "As far as I can tell, it's a real product. It didn't seem PhotoShopped to me. It feels more like the typical Chinese-made product you can only find in low cost stores."
We were unable to confirm the actual existence of this product. Google searches turn up nothing more than references to the Gizmodo item. So perhaps there is some hope for the planet.
Then again, maybe not.
In case you haven't noticed, pole-dancing has become mainstream. Miley Cyrus' recent performance on the Teen Choice Awards on August 10th generated a lot of controversy.
Then there is the video of Miley's younger sister Noah, who is 9, dancing around a pole with some friends during a Teen Choice Awards pre-show party. Maybe they should re-name it the Teen Bad Choices Awards.
Going back three years, there was an uproar over a real pole-dancing product that some felt was being marketed as a children's toy. In 2006, the Peekaboo Pole Dancing Kit was pulled from the toy section of a British store after a public outcry. The kit included fake money, a garter, instructional DVD and of course, a pole.
Even if the Pole Dance doll turns out to be fake, the real problem is how easy it is to believe that it's real. So when anyone says that the pole that Miley and Noah danced around was not a stripper pole, they're wrong.
It was.
Let's face it, stripping has become mainstream. Does this mean that little girls who catch a glimpse of the Cyrus sisters will grow up and pursue pole-dancing as a profession? Hopefully not. If kids always became what they pretended to be when they were young, we'd be a nation of astronauts, fairy princesses and super heroes.
That said, sexualizing childhood is bad news from the get go. Little girls should not be learning that doing a sexy dance is a way to entertain? (There will be time enough in college to learn such behavior.)
What do you think? Is this pole-dancing doll real?

Notice now that not only Miley but now supposedly her little sister Noah have performed pole dances- I never until today heard about Noah but as I said hate mail is as hate mail does

rcpjobsaz said...First of all, I'm in the middle on this subject. I really think that if the doll is real it doesn't matter... and, judging by the apparent size of it, how many 6-14 year old girls do you know that would want to fork over $50-$70 for a doll? Exactly... its the parents who would buy it. So if it offends you don't buy it. I, however, think they are going after the 18-35 year old bachelor with this 'toy'. I know a lot of guys that age who would think it would be cool to have that in their man caves. In that light.. it is a genius product.

mage0213 said...If a guy would want this baby doll model pole dancer in his 'mancave' I would think that he is either a pedofile or a very disturbed man. IF the manufacturer is going after the 18 plus males then it would make more sense to have a more grown up model- wouldn't you think?

Thinker said...The pole is symbolic of a penis! Does anyone want their little girl doing a celebration dance around a penis? It doesn't matter if it's a stripper pole; it's a pole and little girls have orgasms climbing poles. How about a male pole dancing doll? No discrimination please...I was stunned when I saw this article.

Regarding Cathy's post about the "Tickle Me Plant". There is no way I would spend the selling price for this gimmick . . . which totals just over $25.00. This plant ("Mimosa pudica") or the seeds can be purchased at just about any gardening & plant center for less than $5.00. If your child wants to grow something from seed - purchase a pack of seeds at your local garden store and plant a vegetable you would like to eat - or even a flower.
This is just my view on how I've seen so many parents sucked into spending too much money on gimmick items that their children are excited about at first, but the item ends up left by the wayside (forgotten and unattended) too many times by a child who loses interest and/or patience.
As a teenager, I was the Ohio State Fair Champion in Horticulture three years in a row . . . My First Class Champion efforts went to auction at the fair as well. Those were some of the most exciting and memorable times in my life. I never joined 4-H either. Also, I did not grow up on a farm. I went to the garden center and bought my seeds, plants and potting soil. This way I was exposed to a world of so many other plants, plus their growing methods and techniques. So I may be a bit biased regarding the Tickle Me Plant.
That's all, just my view. Have a great day!

These "crappy" "entertainers" are being booed and laughed at and all the while dragging down the reputation of really good girls everywhere. Don't these plastic women realize or care that they put the safety and future of all girls in jeaporday by their crazy antics. Everyone has emotions and growing up is hard enough without being held up to something as pathetic as a nude. (Even with clothes on, the imagination is a powerful thing) There are always criminals watching and some one who is innocent is the one they pick to grab, kidnap and destroy. Womanhood is going down the drain because of money, showbiz and sex, and getting "it" is the big thing nowadays on television. Really sad. Totally wrong. This is a helpless situation unless someone can make an impact on these "actors" that acting like white trash is a waste of a life.

This is just a sample of what some (not all) girls do these days. It's gonna get graphic so.....did you know that girls will give a guy oral sex before they even kiss? Having sex in front of other people is not a big deal. Ever hear of a rainbow? Its when 3 or more girls wearing different lipstick give a guy oral sex so that he has a "rainbow" on his junk. How about a tossed salad? That's when a girl has anal sex then afterwards gives the guy oral. All of this is just the tip of the iceburg. I'm not saying all young girls do this. The ones with good self-esteem don't feel the need to go to these lengths to get a guy. I don't know how old you are, but when i was sixteen it was much different - there was sex, of course, but not like this. And the sad thing is all those things i mentioned are no big deal to these girls. This is their mentality. Marketing a baby doll with a "dance pole" just adds to this mentality and is just wrong. Here's a statistic i saw just today - 1/2 of children will have sex by the time they are 13. Think there's a connection?

Tere said...Good grief, when my daughter was 9 she gave some of her Barbie dolls to the girl across the hall. The next day I found them in the trash. She couldn't have them because Barbie had breasts, her mom threw them away, I wonder what her mother is thinking now.To get all upset and hystercal over something that might not exists is silly. There could be alot worse things a doll could have besides a pole, such as more of the female or male anatomy added. The video games scare me a lot more then a doll with a pole does.

we have taken discipline out of the hands of the parents,
we have taken prayer out of our schools,
and we have taken common sense out of our government.
So what have we left our kids to hang on to?
And you wonder why they are hanging on to a "stripping pole"?

Just because I think christians are narrow minded, as I'm sure you think my lack of belief in your faith makes me narrow minded - That's my god given (pun intended) right not to believe in god. Doesn't make me a fool - I was raised in church - I took world religions in college by a baptist minister - I'm here to tell you I educated myself with an open mind and determinded religion (LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE) evolved into what it is today.
