Does anyone have any suggestions for homemade gifts for grandparents? I'm usually pretty good at this stuff, but right now I'm drawing a blank. My son is 6. Thanks, all!

How about a ice cream stick pencil holder? They're easy as heck and kids usually love it. Take an old can of frozen juice that still has the bottom on it, give the kids paint for the ice cream sticks and elmers glue and they can glue the sticks on the juice can and it glue doodads on if they want too.

Each year my grandkids take home a 'mom gift'. One of the easiest was a flower pot recipe card holder, of course you have to help, but that's part of the fun. Pour plaster into a 5 oz. dixie cup. Stick a popsicle stick in the middle, paint it green if you like, you might have to let it set a bit if the stick doesn't stand straight. Once hard, get a spring type clothespin and glue it to the popsicle stick, hot glue is great. Get some foam flowers, the bigger ones and glue one to each side. It'll look like a flower is holding the card. The kids favorite part (other than mixing the plaster) was painting. At some point tear off the dixie cup and let the kids paint the pot. It really is a joint effort, but the kids have fun.

My daughter in law gave us tea bags that had little pictures stapeled to the tag. She also made up for christmas red spoons that had chocolate melted on it and rolled in peppermint candies that had been crushed tied with a bow and for each gift she had little poems about special grandma's and grandpa's.

I think homemade gifts from little children are highly over rated.

Not that she isn't worthy of this list, how did Granny (The Beverly Hillbillies) get on this list and NOT the Waltons grandparents.
This list without The Waltons, is equal to a community without any church.

Several years ago (probably 10 or more) there was a sitcom where Wilford Brimley played the grandfather. I have always admired his role on that show. I can't remember what the name of it was, but I hated it when it was cancelled.

What a pathetically small list of choices!!! What about Grandpa Walton, from the old TV series The Waltons? That who gets my vote!!

Al Lewis from the "Munsters" (or was it Monsters?)
He was cool.

I am a grandparent, and I think we add something to our grandchildren's lives. We tell them about "years ago" and we tell them about their parents as children....how they REALLY were!
We laugh and joke and play games with them when we baby sit and we're always here for them when they need us. Fortunately for my grandchildren, they have WONDERFUL parents, so anything we do for our grandchildren is just a little icing on the cake.
We respect our children's wishes and try to follow their rules and regulations for the kids, but sometimes we let some of them "slip" ...after all...that's what grandparents are for!

Happy Grandparents' Day to all the grammys and grampas out there. Mary Ann, you rock! You can have visitation rights with *my* kid if you want. :D

Yeah for the Waltons. I joke with my children and grandchildrenwhen we are going to sleep. I'll end it with "Good night John Boy" Of course they look at me like I have two heads. That was one of the best family shows around. The kids today need more of that and less of this "reality show" bull.
