An Alabama boy received a bad report card and didn't want to show his family. So he did what so many kids have done.

According to The Associated Press in a story posted on Newsvine, he said he had been kidnapped after school by a man with a gun who forced him into a car. The boy then said he managed to escape through the car window, but was unable to retrieve his backpack, which had his report card in it. A run-of-the-mill school day. How was your day, mom?

Clearly not satisfied with "the dog ate my homework" excuse, the 11-year-old Huntsville, Ala., student must have been very worried about how low his grades were to concoct such an elaborate tale. He later confessed to his grandparents that he had lied, according to the AP, although one imagines that they would have figured it out eventually. The story was just too detailed and bizarre to be true. Police say they will not press charges.

No word on how bad the grades were.

Clearly the boy didn't think things through here. First of all, at some point the school will find out that he never brought his report card home. Second, he could have just thrown it out and claimed to have lost it, although that wouldn't have garnered the same sympathetic response as a kidnapping. In the end, it's probably better to just face the music.
