Innocent Bath-Time Photos Get Kids Taken Away From Parents
Filed under: In The News, Weird But True, Family Time
Today's moment-of-pause has been brought to you by Wal-Mart and the city of Peoria, Az. Apparently, some photo-clerk vigilante, diligently on the lookout for child pornography, saw photos of kids during bath time and decided to call the cops, according to a story on Good Morning America.
Next thing the parents of these kids knew, the children were removed from their home. For an entire month. Mom got suspended from her job for a year and both -- Anthony and Lisa Demaree -- were added to a list of sex offenders. The judge in the case said the pix were harmless.
"I don't understand it at all," Anthony Demaree told GMA, with his wife by his side. "Ninety, 95 percent of the families out there in America have these exact same photos."
Now they've got another shot to take. This time it's directed at Wal-Mart and their hometown.
Do you think the clerk and the police did the right thing?

What a tragedy! Walmart should be ashamed of themselves for pursuing this and destroying this family's life! Shame on the 'do-gooder....there is a special place in hell for people like that and I am sure they have a spot reserved!

Instead of punishing these parents, get after those kidnapping, raping, and molesting children.
They should FIRE the Wal-mart employee. I hope the family sues the city and Wal-mart.

Elaine said...I hope that the parents not only sue Wal-Mart, but the idiot photo-clerk that called the authorities in the first place. There was not a HINT of anything pornographic, it was so OBVIOUSLY family pictures that everyone takes, and I think it was pretty malicious for someone to call that in to the police. The cops need to be sued, as well, for playing along. What is WITH everyone?? The clerk, Wal-Mart, the police and CPS; they are all IDIOTS that should be sued for a ton of money so that it doesn't happen again! This is truly frightening when you realize that pedophiles can do terrible things and get away with it a huge percentage of the time, yet something harmless like this is used to destroy a family. Where are out rights, Folks?

Mrs. Demaree was one of my children's teachers and a great teacher she was. WalMart employees I can possibly understand, but trained investigators? Ask Peoria PD about their $50,000 Police dog that was trained to trigger on a racial slur. Brain Surgeons they're not.

That doesn't make me a pedophile. It makes me a parent. My parents did it and I'm sure when my child has a child she'll do it. I feel horrible for those poor parents and those kids.

The local police and social service departments hit with a civil suit. Common sense? Anyone?
The Walmart boycotted until the corporation is forced to close the store.
I see stupid everyday, but this ranks right up there.

I still believe that other measures should have been taken and not have assumed right from the begining that the parents where at fault, I agree with you guys. But when you look at it the other way, this guy could have been right. Then he would have been called a hero?

If strong tort reform laws were in place these people couldn't sue for more than a slap on the wrist to a major corporation and a city who's rules and regulations ruined people's lives for at least the month the girls were taken away. Probably everyone in that family will suffer fallout from this stupidity for the rest of their lives. One of the sadder things I've seen on here.

D. said...The people at Walmart are OVERBOARD!!! These Walmart "idiots" confiscated a negative from my trip to Manhattan in 2004 because it depicted a bakery man holding two large sugar cookies w/chocolate centers upto his chest because it was sexually explicit - I NEVER GOT MY FUNNY NEGATIVE BACK because these people think they are the "Porno Vigilantes" of the photo developing world. I guess this is the only way these people feel enpowered since their photography careers ended at Walmart before they got started!

Get that pervert nut case employee fired, I feel so sorry for this family & thank God the Judge was understanding although to have them listed as sex offenders is absurd! God Bless All...

jim said...You got to wonder what the clerks and photo processors don't reveal, what they take/keep/post online or at home, etc. that might be real porn.
I scrapbooked my kids pics recently since I was a single dad for 12 yrs until ex wife 'found herself' and returned and got them back, another story...but I did same, had pics of kids in tub, front yard in summer bare assed, etc. what used to be considered 'funny', but got in same situation until I sued the photoshop for violating my civil rights and found out they were making their own porn and blackmailing others over pics.
Today, a neigbor committed suicide, I was out taking pics around house that need city to fix (trees in power lines, etc, we had sewer line back up) and a black shirt (cop, most of whom are ret NYPD) came up made derogatory comments about sneaking pics, demanded ID, said didn't care if I was ret military and cop, and he wanted info in case they got sued for some reason and that I would be watched and to watch my step.
And we wonder how photoshops get into our business? Because we don't vote for our rights and we have lost them to socialism?

donna said...You're right! What on earth is going on with people today? This is one time where I hope those parents can sue the heck out of Walmart and the town, even though it can't possibly make up for the losses that they and their children have suffered. Thank God the judge had enough sense to know the pictures were harmless. What kind of world do we live in where we have to be afraid of taking innocent pictures of our own children? The true sicko here is the Walmart employee who saw something perverted about the pictures in the first place!!!!
