In Theaters Now: Free Style
"High School Musical" star Corbin Bleu gets serious in his new film "Free Style," a coming-of-age drama about a hard-working high school senior hoping to make it big as a professional motocross racer. The movie touches on serious subjects like race and absentee fathers but doesn't go too deep. A few scenes featuring underage drinking and innocent romance make it real while the racing scenes make it fun. Rated PG, OK for Kids 11+
On DVD: Imagine That
Eddie Murphy stars as a divorced dad learning to put his daughter before his career in "Imagine That." Aside from a few mild insults and some blatant bad behavior on the part of dad, the film is innocent and family-friendly and good for more than few laughs. Rated PG, OK for Kids 6+
TV: Secret Girlfriend
If the title of "Secret Girlfrield" makes you cringe a bit, you are on the right track. Featuring immature slackers objectifying women, the movie is based on a series that previously aired on the Internet. It's rude, crude and original only in it's use of a gimmick that has the actors speaking directly to the camera as if it were a character in the show. Rated TV-14, Iffy for Kids 15-18
Books: Bad Apple
The main character in "Bad Apple" is a teen girl who has an ailing grandfather, a new stepmother and a whole host of other problems in her life. Suspected of having an affair with a teacher, she uses art to escape her pain. A cautionary tale about not believing everything you hear, the book deals lightly with some very heavy subjects. OK for Kids 14+
Music: "3" (CD Single)
From her second greatest hits album, Britney Spears' new CD single, "3," is definitely not kid-friendly. The number in the title refers to a sexual three-way and the song makes it sound like something everyone should do. The lyrics may be harmless but the message is most definitely not. OK for Kids 16+
Web: We're Fed Up
A site for teens, "We're Fed Up" was created by the Youth Activism Against Obesity group. It shines a light on the lies food marketers tell and gives kids an opportunity to share their own struggles with being healthy. With lots of good information on eating, exercising and getting involved in the fight against obesity, it's social networking for a good cause. OK for Kids 13+
Games: Family Feud: 2010 Edition
True to it's name, "Family Feud: 2010 Edition" is a game the whole family can enjoy together. For Windows, Nintendo DS, and Nintendo Wii, the game lets players form teams or play alone to try to find the most popular answers to random survey questions. Aside from some double entendres that the kids won't get anyway, it's good, clean family fun. Rated E, Ok for Kids 8+
